What's bugging you? (2009)

I make $40,000 a year? Most teachers in WI are starting more around $30-35k. Like the gym teacher I know always says, "you had the same opportunity to do this job as I did so who is the dumb one?" I don't particulary agree with the dumb part but everyone gets to choose their jobs. Also, good teachers work a 12 month schedule in 10 months in terms of hours.

Amen. My wife, with 15 years experience and a master's degree makes $2,000 more than I do with my B.A.

And I finally cracked the $30k level last year with 12 years of experience.

We can't all be blessed to teach in rich school districts, thus many teachers that I know have to take a summer job to make ends meet. Maybe this isn't a regular occurrence in Wisconsin but it most definitely is in other parts of the country that does not value education the same way as the midwest.

And I like to say that I received a "calling" to teach, rather than choose it.

This is a "sneak peak".

Right now work, and my SO's lack of one, is what is bugging me.

Robin19 found an appropriate usage for "sneak peak." Kudos. Most other uses are misguided and should be "sneak peek" instead.

Fox 6.

They're showing Brett Favre's top follies sometime this week. The montage during the promo features one of Favre's best plays as a Packer (his lunging TD shovel pass to Donald Lee). What??

Between illnesses and scheduled absences, I've been covering for others all week at the library...and now the Saturday person is sick. If I have to do her shift, which would consist of my spending all of Saturday being asked questions I don't usually have to field and for the most part won't be able to answer, I will be quite bugged.

My email's not working right on my work account. Incoming messages are fine, outgoing is getting out...and no one can figure out why.
Not saying I don't believe you...but if incoming mail is fine and outgoing mail is getting out, where does the problem lie?

Do you use Outlook by any chance? If your .pst file gets over 2 gig it will allow you to receive emails but not send them. I stumbled into this a couple of weeks ago with one of the users I support who's never deleted anything.

I'm fine with the Yankees winning the World Series, but never again do I want to hear an athlete or team executive in any sport do the whole "We won this one for you fans--the greatest fans in the world!" stuff. A-Rod did it. Hal Steinbrenner did it. Girardi may have done it. "You've been there with us the whole year. . ." It just seems so disingeneous.

Those same fans would have put Joe Girardi's head on a stick if they would have lost this series. They have been ripping A-Rod for years.

Instead of calling them the "greatest fans in the world", A-Rod should have told them to choke on it, to say that he won this one for himself and to shut up all the critics who have been bashing him. Who's not a true Yankee, now? That would have been a much better speech.

Also, during the awards ceremony, Chris Rose seemed like a knob. And Joe Girardi's teeth looked especially brown.

There. Enough of that.

Sigh...WOLX in Madison is all Christmas music. November 5 (and may have been earlier, I don't know) seems pretty early.
Nope, it began today. Why on a Thursday, I wouldn't know. My S.O. gets the WOLX emails and they sent advance word out yesterday.

This gave me small comfort: one of my coworkers says he knows one of the WOLX DJs (I didn't ask which one). He asks the DJ every year if they're ever going to start playing more than 12 songs. The DJ replies by putting his finger to his head as if the finger is a gun. So at least some of the staff are as disappointed in their wafer-thin playlist as I am. I don't know if he is also disappointed in the ultra early start date.

I have been fortifying my iPod with Christmas music I really like, so I don't think I'll need WOLX, or WMYX or whatever other stations purport to bring us holiday spirit.

I recently started on this new facebook thing; to see some of an old friends pictures. They are of his second child.

Tonight I decided to upload a few of my photos. It strikes me that my most recent pictures of note are from 2007. It's not that I haven't done anything, I just never take any pictures. Also I have friends with 2 kids jeez, I'm still just a "kid" as I approach my 31st b-day.

BOOO!!!

Though I am happy to report that my "Holidays are Over In ____ Days" calendar at work is under 60 days.

OK, not really bugging me, but I thought it fit this thread.

I heard one today I don't think I've ever heard before...."Thinking ahead of the curb."

Just had to order my second replacement power supply for my Dell e1405 laptop. Original died 18 months in and OEM replacement goes down 12 months later. Hopefully I get my $14.41 out of the new one.

My wife made me haul the Christmas Tree in from the garage yesterday. It was November 8th and it was 60 degrees out and whe wants to set up the Christmas Tree. This is her favorite time of the year though, so I can tolerate it. Neighbors across the street already have Christmas lights up.

I can accept taking advantage of uncommonly nice November weather to put up Christmas lights. I don't think they should be turned on (except for testing) until after Thanksgiving.

Thunderbird: 20 steps

Thunderbird 3 (now in beta) appears to have a one-step Gmail hookup that's likely similar to Apple Mail in Snow Leopard.

What's bugging me is that would seem to be a fit for the "not bugging" thread, but it also seems to be on topic in this one.

There is nothing worse than cramming for a test you need a good grade on about a subject you care zilch about.

Parents who allow their children to scream in a high, shrill, ear piercing, manner without any admonishment or explanation to them that it's inconsiderate or improper behavior.

edit: This falls in the same category with people who leave their dogs outside and allow them to bark endlessly without bringing them in.

Oh, geez, AMEN to that! Our back door neighbors kitty-corner to us have a little yippy dog that wakes us up every Saturday and Sunday morning at 7:00am or so with his yippy shrilly barks and the neighbors just let him bark. I've resorted to ear plugs so I can actually sleep in a bit on a weekend for once.
