Last night's pointless HR notwithstanding, Shaw has really hurt us over the last month or so.

It looks more and more like last season was a fluke. So many strikeouts and weak grounders. If he's truly hurt, DL him and start dealing.

I mean, shaw is basically mirroring his 2017 production if you factor in 1 hot week between now and the end of the season. Not sure if you are expecting him to be better than he was last year

Anderson feeding his gopher early.

Hopes for winning one in this series are fading quickly.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Definitely has the feel of a gassed team getting slapped around before th AS break...pirates were playing poorly before this series, too.

Pitching on fumes, hitting overmatched and wounded.

Slightly OT but how do professional athletes in their prime get gassed playing a game in the middle of a season?

I agree with your post based on how they look. but just curious with today’s conditioning, nutrition, and hydration should make this unlikely. The Pirates are playing in the exact same condition.

I suppose I just expected more than a solo home run once a series. It's not his fault he's thrown in the cleanup role, I suppose. Gotta find better hitters at the other positions.

Things will get a lot easier after the break: 17 games in 17 days, all against playoff contenders, including 7 against the streaking Dodgers, and 8 games in two parks that (like Miami and PNC) are not homer friendly.

Look out below.

That’s why I think Stearns will do something during the ASB.

I don’t think it’s a matter of being gassed. I think it’s a team with a weak offense and terrible starting pitching regressing to the norm after winning an unsustainable number of close games in April and May. They needed the bullpen to be nearly perfect to win many of those games, and now the bullpen isn’t being given many leads, and they are no longer perfect.

I certainly wouldn't go for Machado at this point. Guys that are locked up Realmuto can still help a ton now and in the future.

I'm not about to say this season is slipping away just yet because this road trip is probably the product of a team that hasn't had a day off in two and a half weeks, but I wouldn't blame people for thinking that way given their history. The schedule is really brutal after the break. If the scufffling continues then we can chalk the season up to being a product of an inflated record due to an easy schedule the first two months of the year. They're probably closer to the .500 team they've been since the beginning of June. I'm getting closer to thinking that Stearns should not be a buyer this year. If anything he should probably think about trading Thames for a couple prospects since he's really not needed anymore.

Guys that under performed in the first half playing better would be a big boost in itself.

Arcia, Santana, and Shaw need to find some offense. Santana carried us at times last year and we got nothing from him in the first half. Arcia hit over .270 last year. His replacements have hit a little, but give back as much on D as they create.

Pitching Davies and Nelson were 2 of our top 3 starters. Getting something out of Davies would sure help in the second half.

The team that's on the field today isn't a playoff team. Not even close. Their key guys can't stay healthy. Counsell lets close games slip away by not using his better relievers when they are just down a run. The catching situation is a joke.

Miller should've argued that passionately the first time. That was a legitimate strike three.

I didn't see the first one, but that was a strike.

Boy, quick hook on a double header day.

Broadcast just comparing Pirates having 7 RP today and the Brewers having 10. Hopefully they need to use quite a few of those 7 in this first game now.
