Contreras is either trying to set up his own Kirk Gibson moment or he is legitimately hurt here.

Edit: Looks like cramping.

Contreras has been insufferable tonight just when he draws a walk. Can't imagine what he'll look like if he walks it off.

Looked fine running to 1st there.

I think what Baez did was probably inappropriate but I don't think it is actually interference if you look at it reasonably. I don't think what he did stopped the double play at all.

If interference is committed by a runner with the obvious intent of preventing a double play, the batter-runner will be called out in addition to the runner who committed the interference.

Interference being actually stopping a DP or intending to stop an attempt?

That would be pretty bad-ass if someone pretended to be hurt so they could become legend.

He paid the price for such power, though, as his brains leaked out of his ankle.

It doesn't matter if he stopped it. He did that in order to prevent it. That's interference. Baez has no idea if the hitter fell down running to first.

To play devil's advocate, it is entirely possible that Baez hugged there to help prevent a hard collision. Can't be sure either way, but I don't think it's egregious that it wasn't called interference.

Cubs are going to have to empty out their entire rotation in this one to keep this game tied. No pinch hitters left either.

I don't either, but Arenado has to sell it.

Baez was stopped and Arenado was reaching with the gove to tag him. No chance of a hard collision there.

Im less mad at the umps because arenado just accepted it. Hes gotta at least pretend like hes trying to make a throw.
Remember what Yoda said:

NA took a few steps to tag him out, it’s pretty clear that was the only play he wanted to make for whatever reason. Had he attempted a throw to first at all instead of that stupid hug the umpires might have had to think about it before ruling for the Cubs.
