"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

The mets are going to be sneaky in this race. They have four against an already clinched dodgers team and then their schedule lightens up considerably

The damn cuubs are so bad on the road but they have nine straight home games. Would love to see the Padres pull this out. A one game lead going into the Cards series gives us a little cushion

Man the AL race sort of sucks. Really only Oakland and Cleveland battling it out for WC2.

I really love Oakland. At some point Beane deserves some luck. What they do with the stadium and resources they have is remarkable

Plus they have the second best uniforms in baseball history behind the yankees

I don't think the Dodgers are going to phone it in just yet. Their lead over the Braves for the 1 seed is not very big, so they've still got something to play for.

Of course, I want the Padres to win, but the good news with the win is that it's real likely you'll gain on someone. Already got one on AZ (though I probably would have rather seen the Mets lose). STL looking pretty strong, as is Chicago, but hopefully we can get a Nats loss and a Phils loss too.

So far this wild card race reminds me of my much younger days when SI called the scrambled AL pennant race “The Great Groundhog Race”. They compared the four contenders (Red Sox, Twins, Tigers, and White Sox) to groundhogs that emerged from their holes, blinked in the sun, sniffed the rarefied air of first place, and then burrowed back into the pack where they were more comfortable.

In this race the teams are taking turns having spurts that make them look like the favorites, but then following them up quickly with strings of losses that send them back. Now it’s the Brewers who have had the spurt to poke their noses into the sun. Hopefully they can avoid the urge to burrow back.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Rockies and Padres both sitting 3 runs down and showing no inclination to score a run.

Padres failed to cash in a runner on third with nobody out as Darvish Ks the side to give him 14 for the game.

The Cubs will have to go to their bullpen though

But they’ll still be pitching to the Padres.

Minnesota, do your jobs well tonight!
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Man, Rockies hitter bombs one just foul...would have been 6-5 had it stayed fair. Strikes out on the next pitch to end the inning.

Can you imagine the disappointment Rockies fans must be feeling this year after last?
