Why does he have to be resigned as a catcher?

 

I was about to say "because he's a catcher." But when you think about it, that bat would play as a nearly full time 1B, and it isn't like he'd be blocking anyone.

 

Okay...but we don’t really need a 1B. Why would you sign him elite catcher money to put him somewhere he won’t be that special. Wouldn’t we want our affordable .800+ OPS Thames at 1B and then Grandal at C to be elite?
