Return is reportedly 3 PTBNL.

Per Matt Gelb:

Phillies will trade multiple low-level pitchers to Milwaukee, all PTBNL. Could be two or three, according to sources.

Phelps is a Girardi favorite. He has a $4.5 MM club option for 2021.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I would take 3 young lottery tickets ala the Adam Lind trade.

I think this is a pure salary dump. Would rather have just paid him 4.5 million next season.

Buyout was only 250k next season I believe.

Likely. Can be said that you can never have enough quality relievers, but with the ascension of Devin Williams, and Rasmussen looking like a keeper, they can now allocate that $4.5 million elsewhere. Not a huge fan of giving up a good pitcher for lottery tickets, but ehh, whatever I guess.

A pretty good indication of how Stearns evaluates the chances of this team accomplishing anything this year.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

What are the parameters of making a trade this year? They have to be on the 60-man roster, correct? Would making the players PTBNL affect that at all?

Everyone is tradeable because they have 6 months to sort out the "named later" part. So I'm guessing they already decided on names, but the names won't be official until after the season is over.

According to MLB it could be two or 3 players depending on who the brewers select from the list provided by the Phillies

3 low-level pitchers. If any of them is within the Phillies' top 30, I wonder if one of them is Mick Abel. It also wouldn't surprise me if these guys are guys we've never even heard of before.

So a proven set up man for three or four pitchers who will amount to nothing.

I hate this quantity over quality crap. Stearns could've got a hundred low level pitchers in the trade, but 100 x 0 is still zero.

It's insane to me that you'd write off this trade when the last one of these we made got us Freddy Peralta. Clearly, percentage chance of any of these guys hitting is not 0.
