Bucks 2020-2021 season thread

Going to my first Bucks game tonight. Excited!

 

Sorry you had to see a stinker. My first was sometime in the Mid 90's, and was definitely a stinker.

 

I remember my first game. I wasn't old enough to remember most of it, but it was the Bucks vs Magic, Shaq's rookie year. End of the season, so my Grandpa was able to get seats right behind the Magic bench. 4 or 5 rows deep.

 

Kinda set up unrealistic expectations moving forward. Though we got absolutely crushed, all I remember is Brad Lohaus hitting a 3 right in front of me...and the size of Shaq(and that was probably 130 pounds ago).

My first Bucks game was Michael Jordan's 13th as a pro. Bulls lost but there were people rooting for Jordan in the stands which I thought was weird because they were supposed to be rooting for the Bucks.

I don't remember my first Bucks game but I remember my last one. It was during the heady May Day Bucks.

My last game was at the Target Center last season just before Covid and it was two of my sons' first games. The backboard had an issue and it took over an hour for them to figure out how to replace it. And since they had a backup, I have no idea why they didn't just swap it out in the first place.

 

Timberwolves were 4-2 (or something similar) and while we wait the PA announcer was trumping them up as a championship contender. The Bucks clobbered the Timberwolves by 30 points or so with Giannis sitting out the whole 4th quarter. The Timberwolves went on to lose the next 10 or so games and ended up in their usual bottom feeder location.

Aldridge has been terrible this year. Not sure he helps the Nets that much.

Drummond is not all that good anymore and Aldridge has been horrible also. Rivers is someone the Bucks needed with Augustine traded. None of the acquisitions make any of the teams better.

 

I guess Aldridge and Drummond make the teams better by name recognition?

What I've read about Rivers sounds pretty much like what they needed (size at PG, decent 3pt shooter, good D - able to switch). So I'd say they got better by plugging a hole - he might not elevate the team, but playing a replacement level backup is an improvement.

Griffin and Aldridge have both been not good for a few years. Now that they went to the Nets, everyone's up in arms calling them the East champs already.

well they got Jeff Teague. not sure if that means they are backing away from Rivers? Again doesn't really help but he is a serviceable backup point so doesn't hurt either.

 

also had to look it up, it was already 8 years ago that the bucks signed him to a offer sheet.

In his case maybe dirty more than toughness, but still. Nets and Lakers don't need offense. But you can always use a guy who can rebound in the playoffs and play defense vs certain players.

 

Drummond, for example, is unplayable if the opposing team has a small ball lineup on the court. But he can play against guys like Gobert. That's what these moves are all about, using guys a certain way in the playoffs.

So now that the Bucks can play big or small ball...what is our preference? Probably depends on how PJ meshes with the team, but I'd imagine playing big would be our default? Meaning if we match up with another team built to go big/small...I'd assume we'd prefer big (Brooks)? Mainly because of familiarity?

That was a nice bounce back win against the Lakers last night. The Bucks just dominated the Lakers from the 2nd all the way to the end of the game.

 

It doesn't look like the Lakers have anyone that can guard Holiday at all. Yes the Lakers were without LeBron and Davis but still the Lakers have a problem at PG when playing the Bucks or any team with a competent PG.

Rivers can’t sign until the 9th because he was waived and not bought out. So I’d expect the bucks to sign both to fill their 2 open roster spots
