I think the chargers have converted their last 7 4th down attempts (if you include making a field goal as converting)
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Honestly, this is good for the integrity of the game.

I agree. Playing for the tie strategically would have made some sense and certainly would have made me giggle. But it would be a very bad look.

I don't really agree. If the point is extending your season it would've been completely acceptable at the end there. If they'd both come out and kneeled 100 times, yes, but there was clearly an earnest attempt on both sides to win by that point. In the last few seconds I think it would have been completely acceptable for OAK to decide a blocked kick isn't worth it and kneel.

I'm of the opposite opinion...in that the playing of the game itself poses a significant risk to the future health of your roster, thus a 100-straight kneel down game actually makes perfect sense.

Once you get to the point of attempting a field goal to win the game, sure, go for it.

I have no problem with what they did. I just don't think it would have been some egregious bad look if they decided ok, we tried, but there's an actual chance we blow this, so let's just kneel.

100-kneel down game is funny but would never actually happen.

The Raiders sure looked happy to run out the clock, but the Chargers called that timeout and then gave up 10 yards on an obvious run situation. I bet the Raiders would have kicked from wherever they were when they ran out of time, but if was a 55 year attempt it would have been a bit more interesting of a decision.

I don't think the timeout mattered.

I don't think so either. They were set up in shotgun and at least looked like they were going to throw before it was called. Carr's postgame interview really made no sense. He said "yeah definitely" when asked if it changed their strategy at all and then immediately followed with "we were trying to win the game regardless" or something like that.

And apparently had been texting Aaron Rodgers all morning.

As far as game watchability goes, the Chargers would be a much more fun team to watch in the playoffs than watching the fossil of Big Ben throw 40 2-yard outs next week. The Steelers are an extremely boring team to watch. At least they won't last long, as I expect them to get curb stomped by the Chiefs next weekend.

The problem was if they had tied the Raiders were set to play KC. So I think they would have done anything in their power to not tie. While they both would have made it, the Raiders would have had a horrendous first opponent.
