From Friday night's Link Report:

"Health concerns first from the 3rd inning of Game One - Tristen Lutz was drilled by a pitch right off the protective left ear of his batting helmet, or perhaps just a touch above it. MiLB TV subscribers, go the 01:57:00 hour/minute mark here. Clearly shaken up but somehow managing to stay on his feet, Lutz was immediately whisked into the dugout. Hopefully OK, and surely, Tristen was placed on concussion-watch protocol immediately. Best wishes, young man."

On Saturday, the Brewers placed Lutz on the 7-day IL.

Wes Clarke is moving up to AA Biloxi, possible that more names will be headed with him

Well, that's interesting. Happy for Wes. I'm sure his father is stoked. It'd be nice for him to learn under Thomas Dillard for a brief spell - see if they can trade taking pitch stories!

Make it a three-way convo with Gabe Holt. If they can combine the plate discipline with Holts' ability keep his K's down to approximately one every blue moon you'll REALLY have something.

Not necessarily a transaction yet. BUT, ugh. Just, wooooof.? Posting it here as Rosenthal was playing with the Sounds when this injury occurred.

The promotion of 1B Wes Clarke (posted earlier by @ARobsBrewCrew) to AA Biloxi from High-A Wisconsin is also now showing on the transaction log.

- RHP Raul Mendoza released from ACL Brewers Gold

21-year old RHP Raul Mendoza from the Dominican Republic spent 2019 in the Phillies system (4.66 ERA in 9 2/3 IP) before being a Covid release (May 2020), then latching on with the Brewers in July 2021.

Mendoza put up terrific numbers in his 2021 DSL tour (2.84 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 in 19 IP), then played one more game at that level in 2022 before coming stateside.

Understandably, he found life in the Arizona Complex League a bit more difficult (5.33 ERA, 1.89 WHIP, 7.8 K/9 in 25 1/3 IP) and unfortunately the leash can be especially short for relief pitchers in the lower minor leagues. We wish Mr. Mendoza success in his upcoming ventures, whether with another baseball organization or elsewhere.

- OF Esteury Ruiz recalled to MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville
- RHP Luis Perdomo recalled to MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville
- RHP Noah Zavolas released from AA Biloxi

The Zavolas release really surprises me after a great 2019 in High-A, respectable 2021 in AA and recent turnaround after a slow start this year (2.61 ERA over last 20 2/3 IP; though 6.57 ERA on the season). Zavolas was recently placed on the season-ending injured list, so I wonder if this is similar to Braden Webb and Luke Barker where the athlete prefers to go his own route with surgery and rehab.

I hate speaking negatively about this organization, but, despite the retraction that Barker posted a while back to clear up his previous accusations, both Webb and Barker were quite blunt when I spoke to them following their releases.  They painted a picture of an organization that forced them out because it simply didn’t think they were worth it’s time to rehab.  In Webb’s case, he pitched an entire season with a  partially torn ACL and was then released because, understandably, his results weren’t up to par.  I do understand that you have to take player’s words with a grain of salt following a release, but their stories were just too consistent to dismiss in my opinion.  Also, I honestly can’t say I know of a player that would rather go through the rehab process without assistance from an organization but I may be wrong.

It’s not reflected on his player page, but LHP Karlos Morales is clearly back for High-A Wisconsin from the short suspension, as he pitched tonight

The weird thing is that is a very recent phenomenon. I think Preston Gainey was brought back possibly two straight years on minor league deals while he rehabbed.

I wonder if other teams are doing this as well. The cynic in me wouldn’t put it past Manfred’s office to create a concession they could make if the MILB players end up unionizing.

Wow. I'm happy for Nash Walters to go to an organization where he has a decent chance. It's really great he turned his season around and is carving a path for himself. Best of luck, young man!

Was Nash Walters on anyone's radar? Doesn't seem like a significant loss. Lots of SOs, but pretty many hits, too. He was a third round pick, so he was highly regarded once. Did 2020 derail him.

I thought he’d become a minor league free agent and do the common route of taking a minor league contract with spring training invite.

He’s rather consistently had a nice K/9 rate, but lost several years due to injury. He stepped up his game this year, including a nice scoreless streak from mid-June to late July, but he’s only made 2 career appearances in AAA, which I didn’t believe was enough to make anyone’s 40-man MLB roster.

But maybe the Angels were bowled over by his work against their AA affiliate Rocket City 3 weeks ago and they decided to make the cash offer.
