He would occasionally have a splash play or game that would resemble competency, but his downs were spectacularly bad.

I think the fact that he's a street free agent at age 27 at a position of high demand is pretty telling on how high the league is on his skills.

I think the fact that he's unemployed is probably a mix of those negative splash plays combined with an inability to stay on the field or add much value as a special teamer. I would be surprised if he doesn't get another shot somewhere at some point this season, but your point is sound. He should be in the prime of his career, but he's on the outside looking in now.

I do agree that someone will probably kick the tires at some point, though quite possibly temporarily. Chicago and Baltimore come to mind as current possibilities.

And this only ranks as 2nd or 3rd on the worst decision list of 2022...

Regarding King, I didn't mind bringing him back, but at the price we brought him back... ooof.  He is clearly an NFL talent (though a below average starter), but injuries are a big issue.  Someone will get hurt and he'll sign a vet minimum deal.

Thought this was appropriate given both the cowboy and Packer discussion.

The Browns used to have a Brownie image as their logo, though he was a happier elf.

It just occurred to me that the guardian helmet wraps are essentially a leatherhead wrapped around a modern day helmet.  We've come full circle...

Guy got a bad rap due to a few missed coverages at very inopportune times, but when healthy, he was often a solid NFL CB. I wasn't a huge fan of bringing him back last year due to the PTSD from those blown assignments, plus an inability throughout his career to stay healthy, but I understood why they did it.

There were largely two plays. One you can put about 90 pct on the DC. The Buccs have 7 seconds to go, we play single hi man. They're NOT throwing the ball over the middle.

We play PRESS man. King had a bad back and wasn't running well that game. Give the Buccs credit, they took a shot. But Pettine...man, that was almost Greg Williams level irresponsible. You assume they're trying to get another 8 yards there and kick the FG as they were JUST on the verge of FG range.

The other was on a play that was just...bizarre officiating.

The Packers get the IDEAL scenario after they decide to kick. TB brings the ball out, AND cover it well, tackle them at the ~16 and do so with like 2:06 left.
They complete a pass for 9 yards, we give them a 1st down.

3rd down, we have TWO Time Out's remaining, it's 3rd and 4. They get Tyler Johnson in man coverage with King.

King grabs his undershirt. The ball is uncatchable, he's not impeding Johnson and it's not as bad as the hold on Murphy-Bunting that the refs let go at the end of the 1st half that led to the Scotty Miller TD.

Oh, and the flag came out about 5 seconds AFTER the play. He clearly had a hold of his shirt...but again, the pick Rodgers threw was WORSE of a hold and was a 10 point swing and like they did all day, they let them play.

He'd be on a team right now if he wanted to. I suspect he believes he's worth more than he actually is. Several teams have talked to him or been interested in him.

Maybe he's getting bad advice, maybe he thinks because he's coming off his "best season," last year(per PFF)...or that if he just waits, he'll get an offer more in line with what he thinks he deserves.

Wouldn't shock me at all if he got fully healthy, came back and then had a big Rasul Douglas like year. I wouldn't bet on it, but it wouldn't shock me.

He played his best when he was playing in the middle of the field, covering TEs and reading the QBs eyes. Maybe a Cover 3 scheme is just a better fit for him(though for some reason that's what we ran primarily in week 1...and it's kinda baffling...not even C3 match 2 or anything, but...basic drops, run a clear out, let Jefferson cross behind the LBers, safeties come up, he bends it up, safeties stay back, he flattens it out and ...it's just what the Packers have done.

Anyway, King is clearly good enough to be on this 53 man. He CAN play STs. He has played STs and...

Maybe sometime off to just...reset, miss the game, get healthy and then pick a team that needs him will be good for him. He's too...physically gifted to be so bad. But as of now, you have NO idea what you'll get from him. He was one of the best tackling DBs in the league last year. Where the hell did THAT come from? Maybe that 6'2 145 pound stick should play in the box. IDK, you can't always figure these guys out. Some are just missing that mental component. They lose their confidence and they can't get it back. He was benched for Chandon Sullivan last year. A below average #4 CB with a fraction of the ability he has.

I'll be on board with signing him...NOW. After week 1 so he's not fully guaranteed a full season. Give him 250K signing, vet minimum and bring him in. We have 19 or 20 games left. We'll get 10-13 from him...most likely. Maybe he does something, maybe he's no different than Jean-Charles. Who knows at this point.

Edit-That wasn't at all directed to your little quip or aimed at you. It was more just the confusion how these players aren't fully embracing EVERYTHING that can protect the very thing that makes them the

They look stupid, but apparently they've got a design where that padding is INSIDE the helmet or at least between the inside padding and the hard shell. This is supposed to reduce impact by 20%. These aren't as effective, but the other once were more costly, so the company didn't have enough.

The NFL should ABSOLUTELY mandate those other helmets. No Grandfather order like they did with the older ones, no exceptions. No whining because it's 12 inches heavier. These guys do shrugs with 4 racks on each side.  They're not awkward 8 year olds who haven't grown into their body and just fall over when they're running because they don't have great balance yet.

Sit EVERY player down, show him the story of Mike Webster, Junior Seau, Jovan Belcher who killed his Fiancé for no discernable reason, then went and thanked the Chiefs before eating a bullet.

I just listened to "Bussin with the Boys," and someone ELSE on there was whining about them(And I think it was a new one, they're not even using them anymore). I get chronic migraines. Sometimes it's 4 in 6 months, sometimes it's 0 in 6 months, sometimes it's a little more, whatever. They're awful. Pucking, I feel like a vampire. I've had a lot of concussions, don't know if there is any correlation. But it is BRUTAL. These guys with serious CTE get them daily and it's changed their personalities. They find no joy in life. They're 40 and they're used up.

So mock the helmets or...ya know, embrace protecting your brain JASON KELCE. /End rant

Yikes, it's early in the season but the Colts have been a major disappointment. Lucky to tie the texans last week and getting manhandled by the Jags. Only 27 plays run through three quarters on 14 minutes possession.

Wow what an epic collapse from Baltimore. Gave up 28 points in the 4th.

Tampa might be without Evans this week against the Packers due to a 1 game suspension for his role in the fight during yesterday's Bucs-Saints game.  I think he's got the option to appeal, but that will happen this week in time for either his suspension to be upheld (costing him the Packers game) or dropped.

Evans has officially been suspended for the Packers game. Yes, he can appeal the suspension but I doubt he would win it. Plus it's questionable if Godwin and Jones will be healthy enough to play so Tampa could be down their top three receivers. That would be huge for us, but I would still expect to be underdogs in the game.
