Hock to the Vikings, Claypool to the Bears.

Claypool going to Chicago for the Bears 2nd round pick...which is practically a first rounder (especially after trading their two marketable defenders).  Even if the Packers were looking for WR help, they weren't going to beat that offer.

Nor should they. I can't believe the Steelers are getting a pick that is potentially HIGHER than the one they originally used on Claypool.

If there's one team that knows how to burn draft capital via trade, it's definitely the Bears

Hearing postponed until Tuesday.

Reid was sentenced to 3 years in prison for his crime.  Could have originally gotten 7, but his plea deal reduced his maximum to 4.  Judge gave him 3.

Not sure if he's eligible for early release or if he'll have any driving restrictions when he gets out.

This is Andy Reid's son.  Andy hired him and had no safeguards in place to prevent Britt from driving after drinking at work that night.

I'm not putting this on Andy Reid. He sent him to rehab, he gave him a job because...well, he(Andy) could afford to and because it provided some structure to his life.

This is on a grown man for making a decision. Also should be on those he was drinking with in terms of moral responsibility, not legal, but I blame Britt Reid and him alone.

NOW....as an employee of the KC Chiefs, THEY can, should and I'm sure will be sued for damages and they should just do the right F#$%$ thing and give this young girl's family...15M or something to put in a trust handled by her parents or paid out by a company with a fiduciary responsibility and someone who is in charge of approving those payments.

From what I understand, she's going to suffer from mental deficits for the rest of her life. HOPEFULLY...that won't be the case given the way medicine is advancing all the time, but gotta deal with reality and the reality is she's going to need caretakers. And the LAST thing you want as a parent is to worry about some 3rd rate facility your daughter has to live in became some grown ass man couldn't make a decision with the millions and millions of dollars his family is worth OR...even if they were were nothing, just take the uber the organization provided.

We're WAY too lenient on drunk driving, particularly in this state.

Well...in fairness, he's better than you'd have expected a the 49th pick.

1st two years, ~1850 total yards, 13 TDs.

Smart to give Fields a big, athletic target, but I'd be more concerned with just drafting OL if I was Chicago.

Then again, they may well be looking at another QB in this years draft.

How funny would it be if Fields got run out of Chicago after they find themselves in position to draft CJ Stroud or whoever...and the Packers ended up picking him up like Buffalo picked up Trubisky and THEN he hit?

Nothing like the 'ole give him target, but give him no time to throw to them or cripple him getting sacked over and over.

The Cam Akers situation is weird. First it was reported he was stepping away from the team due to personal issues. Then it was "philosophical differences" with the coaching staff and he would be released if he wasn't traded. Well, he wasn't traded and wasn't released. In fact, he's back with the team today.

So basically he cussed out a coach?

I like cussing out the coach, but he doesn't agree...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Maybe. He came into the year as the starter but couldn't hold the job. Although that whole offense is crap outside of Cooper Kupp. I suppose he could just be throwing a fit because he's not playing as much as he thinks he should.

Here's the other weird one. Brandin Cooks is sitting out tonight for the Texans after sitting out practice this week because he's upset he wasn't traded. I can't really blame the guy for not wanting to be there but he was also the guy who last year said he was sick of being traded and would retire if he was ever traded again. He also signed a 2 year extension with the team before the season. Sorry but I don't feel sorry for him one bit.

I really like the shiny red Texan helmets, but they need to change the jerseys then as that was a lot of red... maybe its symbolic,...

Yeah, a contract with a big base contract. Chances are pretty good the Packers trade for him...IF he'd have gotten more money in a SB and less in guaranteed base salary...but they've also already got ~75M in dead cap space from Watson, Cunningham, Mercilus(and about a dozen other players).

So that was likely the hold up. They just couldn't give up a 3rd and then take on another 16M in base salary next year...or, just as bad, restructure that and then kick ~10M or so down the year with void years and more cash up front.

It's funny, I think we all wanted the Packers to be more aggressive during Ted Thompson's time, but then once we are more aggressive, we sign FAs, then Covid comes, there is a ~45M difference between what you THOUGHT the cap would be and where it ended up and now you're chasing your tail.

This is that phrase we got backward in the US. "Have your cake and eat it to." Which of course doesn't make sense. Don't give me cake if I can't eat it. But this is Cooks wanting to eat his cake(get paid) and have it to(then pick where he goes).

So nah, don't feel sorry for him one bit. He's made like...150M in his career and has barely been consequential. Now he's pouting? Fine him a game check.

I just have to pop in and mention that the phrase "have your cake and eat it too" refers to wanting to retain the cake but also eat it, i.e. something that can't be done.

Yes, but in modern English, we've flipped it. It's etymology is old English saying effectively the same thing, but the way we say it doesn't make sense.

"You can't have your cake and eat it too." Well...then keep the damn cake! I only want it if I can eat it!

The original version is; "would yee both eat your cake and have your cake?" Now that makes sense. The other way around though? Makes no sense.

In Cooks case, this was getting paid a big bonus, saying he didn't want to get traded...and then pouting when the Packers(or whomever) couldn't afford to trade for him(or apparently it was more that they didn't value him as they did offer a 1st for DJ Moore from the Panthers who has a bigger base next year).

Frank Reich out at Indy.

EDIT: Colts radio commentator Jeff Saturday named interim head coach.

What a dumpster fire.

And once again, the NFL tells us what it thinks of the Rooney rule.  Jeff Saturday's coaching resume includes a short stint at Hebron Christian Academy and nowhere else.

Not sure the Rooney rule applies to interim coaches. I could be wrong though.

Perhaps not.  But to all the minority coaching candidates, this is another example of how the gate of entry is so much more difficult for them that it is for a white candidate.

Or we could just ignore the race issue here and focus on the fact that the Colts staff has a lot of coaches of various ethnicities that are more qualified than Saturday is.

The Rooney rule doesn't apply to interim coaching hires, as those are typically made just to get a team through the rest of a lost season during a league year, without an extensive interview process.

Pretty sure you and Todd Bowles don't see eye to eye on this one.
