Draft grades are all nearly based on the player ranking and not based on team needs or fits on the team.

The grades are rather useless really as they don’t really say all that much after the first 5 or 10 picks in the draft.

well the packers get downgraded for not taking a WR typically. Some part of the grade is the graders perceived needs.

I don't like the idea of trading three picks for one player.

#53 + #132 gets to #47

#53 + #93 gets to #40

So many teams grabbed WRs yesterday (draft or trade) that there can't be that much demand left in round 2.  I think they can get Pierce or Pickens (given his incident this weekend) at #47, probably #53.

Speaking of Pickens and Pierce, I just found out about the incident with Pickens in a teammates car at 4am this past Sunday.  Part of me wants to swap out Pierce for Pickens at #53, part of me thinks that by having Wyatt, Walker, and Stokes on the team those three can reel in Pickens as he will trust them.

So taking a quick look at Rd 2 order as it sits, teams that could use a WR before Packers pick at a hypothetical #47:

  1. Minnesota
  2. Houston (possibly)
  3. Bears (need 2 and pick at 39/48)
  4. Indianapolis
  5. Atlanta (not likely, but a possibility even with London.  They basically have Kyle Pitts and Cordarelle Patterson hybrid role)
  6. Cleveland
  7. Baltimore (after trading Hollywood Brown)

If Packers wait until #53

  1. KC
  2. Pittsburgh

I would say waiting until #53 and hoping Pickens/Watson/Moore/Pierce fall could put the Packers on the outside and wanting in like round 1.

Those teams have lots of other needs too.  The Bears don't need two in the 2nd - Mooney put up over 1000 yards last year with terrible QB play, he's a budding star.  They could use one starter, but need OL a lot more than WR.  Minnesota needs DL and CB more than WR.  Browns need DL and LB.  Indianapolis needs a LT, CB, and Edge.  Baltimore needs Edge, CB.  Houston literally needs everything.

My top 3 is

1) Pickens

2) Watson

3) Pierce

I like all three - I also have Jalen Tolbert from South Alabama on that list, possibly #2.  Depending on how bad the info is on Pickens maybe even on top my list.

I'm assuming we will take a WR today, but at this point I think expectations for said player should be tempered as far as 2022 goes. As great as Davante Adams is, he wasn't much of a contributor as a rookie. Same goes with Jordy Nelson. These guys often take years in this system. Amari Rodgers was a Day 2 last year and I frequently forget he's on the roster.

Won't happen but I'd love to get a WR in the 2nd and land some out of nowhere trade for someone like Tyler Lockett with the 3rd.

Tolbert would be a good choice too. I don't see much differentiation between the 4 so they were smart to not cave to public pressure yesterday and get one today

I'd love woods in the 3rd

Looking at drop rates, Moore and Pickens have the best hands in the draft.  Watson is a super athlete that can’t catch, which can be problematic for WRs.

I'm on the PIckens/Pierce train, but Tolbert is growing on me.  He reminds me a lot of Adam's draft profile and skillset.  Not to say he steps right in and replaces him, but I think he slips further because he isn't quite as big or quite as fast as others...yet maybe the better football player.

They don't need 2 in the second, but it's a possibility.  Mooney is great and Byron Pringle (3rd WR in a normal room) just got arrested in Miami last week.  They need an X and possibly a slot.  They need OL as well, but mostly at RG which can be filled at #71 or later.  If they get a chance to do something like Pickens at 39, Moore at 48, and maybe Parham/Petit-Ferere at 71, they have to determine if that looks better than say Pickens at 39, Faalele/Kinnard at 48? and someone like SHakir or Metchie at 71 (if they make it).

While all of these teams have other needs, it's going to come down to evaluations, previous selections and value of other picks.  I listed all that COULD take a WR, not WILL take one.  If we want to get into most likely I would maybe say Chi, Indy, Cleveland, KC with Baltimore always a wild card with a big need now which are all before 53.  I would bet highly that the WR talent goes fairly early in round 2 and say Pickens/Watson/Moore/Pierce will all be gone by 50.

Well if you thought you could miss a bit of the beginning of the second round you are wrong lol.
