This is a huge blow. Omar sucks vs lefties so ideally you want a platoon mate as his backup. Sullivan bats lefty and Feliciano by most accounts isn't ready yet. Between Sullivan and Feliciano they have 1 career MLB at bat

yeah catcher is probably the worst position in the organization to lose a back-up for half the season. I am sure it will be Sullivan if they don't find someone who was cut and out of options.

Trading for old friend Jacob Nottingham back makes a ton of sense. He has a career 1.039 OPS vs lefties and he knows the staff already. Shouldn't cost too much either.

I mean, it was in Severino's statement released through the MLBPA. I don't see any reason for not taking the guy at his word. He accepted the punishment and admitted he messed up.

Well that sucks. Hopefully with it being the end of ST, some team will trim the roster and Stearns can find a replacement on waivers.

during the lockout, pedro severino was barred from sharing with club officials the medical treatment that he was receiving. had club officials known, could they have advised him not to take the prescription?

I’d like to believe him, but that’s also a great way to cover. It majorly sucks, and I want to believe players.

You asked if it was a known fact, and I provided Severino's statement. I guess you could demand a copy of his prescription or his prognosis if you wish, but sometimes you just have to take a guy at his word. Especially in a case like this, which can certainly be construed as embarrassing. He certainly didn't need to come out and admit that he has incontinence. In a lot of ways, in the macho world of MLB, that could be looked at as even more embarrassing as getting pinched for taking roids. I certainly believe him, because I have no reason not to, and applaud him for being forthright about something that can be embarrassing for a lot of men.

How about the MLBPA?  They are bringing in boatloads in dues and with the testing regimen they can't hire a pharmacist to advise their players about whether recommended drugs are part of the banned drugs? Sure, it could look like MLBPA is trying to circumvent drug testing, but they can require the pharmacist to only evaluate a drug brought to them by a player/verify what a doctor has already prescribed. The player is out 50% of his salary.  I'm sure he'd have paid 10% of that for consultation.  There sure is a lot of "der" in leadership these days.

This is a big loss with Severino being a potentially nice bat and Narvaez not being a sure thing.

Clomiphene is a fertility medication that induces ovulation in women.  In men, it obviously does not have that affect, which is why it is not prescribed to men.  Ever.

In men, it affects the hormonal axis in a manner which increases testosterone levels, which is why it is a PED.

There is no physiologic reason, nor FDA-approved indication, for a man to take clomiphene.  Even if he is going through fertility treatments with his wife.

Either Severino's doctor is a quack, or he took it for performance enhancement

You can choose to believe whichever you wish.

How many catchers in baseball would you qualify as a sure thing?

Narvaez might not be in that select group, but he’s 10th in WAR among all catchers over the last three seasons so he’s a safer bet than many.

You did. I’m not trying to be confrontational, just trying to approach with a level mindset. 
A few thoughts:

-I have no doubt the prescription is real. He went to a doctor in the DR and got a prescription

-I want to believe him

-Players and agents need to be better. Double check the list. Seems really easy.

-This medication isn’t even proven to aid in infertility, it statistically was the same as placebo.
-This is exactly the type of drug one could take if they wanted to cheat, but have a cover story.
