The Timber Rattlers get us started for today's series finales, needing a win to split the week 3-3 at home against Peoria. Starting RHP Justin Jarvis had a nice month of May (2.73 ERA in 26 2/3 innings with 31 Ks). RF Arbert Cipion hasn't skipped a beat since his promotion, hitting his first homer in High-A yesterday and now sporting a 7-game hitting streak (5 pre-promotion, 2 post):

The Shuckers are down 4-1 in this week's series in Pensacola and turn to starting LHP Nick Bennett (5.21 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 6.2 K/9 in 38 innings in AA) to turn things around. 3B Yeison Coca has had a nice 3-game run (6-for-12, HR, 5 RBIs):

The AAA Sounds are down 3-2 in this week's series in Durham, so need a victory today to avoid their first series loss of 2022. Solid RHP Dylan File (3.86 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 7.1 K/9 in 44 1/3 innings) will make his 11th appearance of the season. LF Abraham Almonte comes into the game with an 8-game hitting streak:

This week in Lynchburg has been a struggle for our Low-A Mudcats, who trail the series 4-1 entering tonight's finale. Starting RHP Alexander Cornielle (3.22 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, 10.9 K/9 in 36 2/3 innings) will make his 10th appearance. Keen-eyed 1B Jesus Chirinos has an 11-game on-base streak (9 hits, 10 walks over the period):

Wisconsin did well to start off this Sunday with a Win(!) - 5-1 over Peoria.

RHP Justin Jarvis continued his fine form (6 innings, 1 run, 3 hits), while 4 of the Timber Rattler runs were scored via homers by Zavier Warren, Ashton McGee (it's awesome to see him hitting consistently again) and MLB Veteran Alex Hall.

Biloxi's Sal Frelick doubled in the 1st inning, when the team loaded the bases with nobody out and failed to score. Then he homered in the 2nd inning, a 2-run shot which is his first as a Shucker.

Jakson Reetz also doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning. Biloxi leads Pensacola 3-0.

Carolina's Eduardo Garcia followed up Jackson Chourio's 1st inning solo shot with one of his own (his 3rd of the year) in the 2nd inning, giving Carolina a 2-0 lead.

Lynchburg scored an unearned run in the 3rd inning to cut it to 2-1, before Chourio led off the 4th inning with a base hit to put the Mudcats in business.

Jonathan Davis (single) and Abraham Almonte (double) were left stranded in the 1st inning, then Durham homered to take an early 1-0 lead over Nashville.

Almonte then singled in the 3rd inning to knock in Brian Navaretto to tie it up 1-1.

RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez has entered in the bottom of the 6th inning to relieve starting RHP Alexander Cornielle (3 runs, 2 earned). It's a 3-3 tense affair in Lynchburg.

Through 5 innings in Durham, Nashville is 1-for-9 with RISP with 5 men left-on-base, while Durham is 1-for-1 with RISP and have stranded zero runners. Durham 2, Nashville 1.

Jackson Chourio comes through in the 8th inning against tough righty Davis Sharpe. It's a 2-RBI single, Chourio's 3rd hit of the game, giving Carolina a 5-3 lead.

LHP Nick Bennett threw 87 pitches, covering 4 2/3 innings (2 runs, 3 hits, 7 Ks) and RHP Nash Walters got the final out of the 5th inning.

Biloxi leads Pensacola 6-2, with RHP Carlos Luna entering now. Hopefully he's able to cover the final 4 innings to preserve a much-needed win for the club.

Carlos F. Rodriguez was impeccable as usual, throwing 4 shutout innings (2 hits, 1 walk, 8 Ks) to earn the win over Lynchburg 6-3. That brings Carolina back within a half-game of Lynchburg for first place.

Carlos Luna exits after throwing 60 pitches, covering 2 2/3 innings. The last batter, Pensacola OF JD Orr just an extraordinary 14-pitch at-bat.

It's 6-4 Biloxi, leading with 2 outs and a runner on 3rd base in the bottom of the 8th inning.

RHP Arnaldo Hernandez is in the game, hoping to strand this runner and earn a 4-out save.

Check that. Arnaldo Hernandez did successfully strand that runner at 3rd in the 8th inning to keep Biloxi ahead 6-4, but it's RHP Harold Chirino who enters in the 9th inning to attempt to earn the save.

Can the Shuckers toss away a 5th game in this week's series against Pensacola?

First batter of the bottom of the 9th inning: reaches via error
Second batter: walks
Third batter: hit by pitch

...Fifth batter: hit by pitch. Hey, that's 3 consecutive hit-by-pitches, the last two earning RBIs for standing in the correct place.

6-6 game. Bases still loaded. Still nobody out.

I'm going to bed.

No wait, before I could even close my laptop, we hit a 4th batter in a row.

Pensacola walks off Biloxi yet again, this time scoring 3 runs in the 9th inning without even needing to get a hit. Four consecutive hit-by-pitches is not something you expect to see at any level of baseball, but the Shuckers are being quite inventive this week.

Good night.

Carlos Rodriguez has put together six straight starts in which he threw exactly four innings and gave up exactly two hits in each, which is a truly bizarre statistical anomaly in addition to being really impressive. Over that period he has a 1.88 ERA, a 0.71 WHIP, and a 35:5 strikeout to walk ratio.

Pitcher of the Month, indeed. He’s been stellar.

Biloxi ‘Awwww’ Shuckers have now migrated into nightly pitching melt down territory. Such a weird season down there. When it’s not one thing, it’s another.

The guy he relieved has also been pitching very well and is a bit under the radar.  Last year as a mostly 19-year-old split between rookie ball and two games at low-A in 41 IP he struck out 60 to only 18 walks.  Has a nice frame on him too at 6'2", 180.
