Game Thread (7/10/2022): Pirates (Quintana) at Brewers (Lauer) - 1:10 PM CDT

I honestly don't think I've had a Brewer team that was in 1st nearly the entire season that I enjoyed less than this team.

I'm far more excited about what Jackson Chourio is doing than anything I see from the Brewers. Maybe I'll take a peak at some games in October out of pure curiosity, but woof, I just have no interest right now.

How many managers last 8 years with a team?? At a certain point guys get stale. A new voice might be needed. Counsell just seems kinda blah and not as sharp as he was coming up. At least fire Murphy and get him a new right hand.

I get that this is a disappointing time but I don't think you fire people during the season when you're in first place.

Would have won likely if for not pitching Suter and Chi Chi in the 9th inning ...

I would not go that far....they still had to score off the Pirates closer and those odds were not good.

The odds of winning this game dropped dramatically when the Pirates reached 4 runs.

Didn't Ned Yost get fired in a similar situation with a week to go??

I’ll watch every game I can but this is where I’m at.  This team is boring as hell to watch and full of dudes that shouldn’t be on the team.

We scored 2 off their closer ... case closed.

They were in a chase for the wild card, but that was a pretty ridiculous panic move.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Agreed. You would think that with the style of ball Counsell came up playing he would not be a fan of hit a home run or die baseball but this team is that and thensome.

It was the right move ... Ned Yost was a mess!

Is there something wrong with Burnes now or do they just want him to be rested for the ASG?

I see they have Alexander and Ashby listed as the starters for the Twins series.

Based on what we know, it seems like Counsell and Stearns have a pretty good working relationship, and share similar values and have a similar vision for how the team should be run.

That may not be the case behind closed doors, but to the public and the fans, they've presented a fairly united face, and there's no reason to believe they're not similarly aligned, for as long as CC has been with the team.

That being said, Counsell has been ....puzzlingly mediocre this year with his in-game decisions and lineup makeup, so I'd be surprised if there's not some behind-closed-door discussion about where those things are at.

I'm pretty sure we're not at the level where Stearns would consider firing Counsell.  Yet.

And Counsell isn’t. I hang the last 2 losses on him.

Counsell is a mess when it comes to in-game-management ... nothing new, sadly, though.

First question should be Craig given the way the 9th played out and the fact you let the same guy beat you again what is your defense for pitching a guy who hasn't pitched in 8 days cost you a chance to win??

Did it work?? Not so ridiculous given the result.

It “worked” because the Mets collapsed, the Brewers were able to win some games the last week against the awful Pirates and a Cubs team that was setting up for the playoffs, and Sabatthia pitched his butt off.

It wasn’t because the Brewers or Sveum did anything special.

Maybe but do they win any games if the change is not made?? We will never know of course but it can't be dismissed as a non factor.

I'm convinced they don't make it in that year w/o the move. "Change for the sake of change" sounds like a useless, hollow strategy, but it sometimes works in sports. It worked then. I actually clamored for it in '07 as well.

We are still in first by 2 1/2 games!

Go Brewers!

Learn from your mistakes now!

And then give the opponents a big POW!

I think this is the only reason that anyone is following this team any more

they are just not very good and not fun to watch.   It’s the illusion of a playoff that keeps everyone holding on

i think I’m about to give up on that too

alot of people kind of saw the smoke and mirrors the first part of the season was.

Feels like 2014 except they have better starting pitching but worse hitting.
