I'm heading to bed.  It's a cool night, but no chance of hell freezing over so the Brewers don't have a chance to score in the ninth.

Oh they'll score a second run but leave the tying and go ahead runs on base.

The teams have barely changed except for St. Louis getting Quintana and Montgomery and us getting Bush and trading Hader. There's a reason they're separated by less than a game. Agreed that they have to win some of these games against St. Louis, but this is literally the first game of the series.

Those seem like significant changes to me, and neither of them good for us.

Good point next time it will be "score enough to tie or win". :)

Hader no longer being the closer seems like a pretty good change lately. Bush looked really good on Tuesday. Quintana and Montgomery have been good so far for the Cardinals, but they're not so far above what the Cardinals were getting before from their starters.

The season series against St. Louis is tied as of right now. And the Brewers have a winning record against teams above .500. Our problem has been that we've been crapping the bed against teams like the Pirates, Cubs, and Reds lately when we should be dominating them.

It’s one thing to beat teams that are barely over .500 like the Twins, Orioles, and Rays. But it can be something else again to beat teams that are 30 games over .500 like the Dodgers, Mets, and Yankees.

The Brewers need to both start winning again against the bad teams and hold their own against the good teams to stay in the playoff hunt. They have to expect that the Cardinals and Phillies will be beating up on the bad teams they play.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yeah. But they have been holding their own against the good teams. Besides being over .500 against teams above .500, they've taken series from the Blue Jays, Twins, Rays, Braves, Phillies, Padres, etc. Again, we've had opportunities to pad our record against the Cubs, Reds, and Pirates, but we've completely failed to do so lately.

That was a pretty good preview of what I would expect to see from the Brewers offense in a playoff series.

Offensively, things hinged on Yelich & Adames basically being defeated by Montgomery & Molina in the 1st & third situation when they could've turned the momentum. Overall, they've had a ton of games this year where they swung the bats worse than tonite. Seven or eight hits and could easily have been 10 or 11.

Lauer with another weak launch to his night. Should've been back-to-back walks to start.

So now we need to win the next two to have the tiebreaker since there isn’t a game 163 anymore.  Not that a tiebreaker situation is going to come into play here…

The Rays and Twins were two of the teams I mentioned that are barely over .500; they are not currently in a playoff position.

The series the Brewers won against the Braves, Phillies, and Padres were in May, before those teams got going and before they improved themselves at the deadline.

I’m pretty sure that the Jays series is the only series that the Brewers have won since May against a team that is currently in a playoff position.

Not exactly. We have four more games against the Cardinals after this series.
