Carolina's 5-game winning streak has brought them to within 2.5 games of a second half playoff spot and just-turned-19-year old RHP Yujanyer Herrera (5.36 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 in 43 2/3 ACL innings) makes his Low-A debut today at home against Fayetteville. 1B Jesus Chirinos has an 8-game on-base streak:

Trivia question: As per Fangraphs, when Herrera takes the mound he will be only the second Brewer pitcher since 2006 to play in low-A during his age-18 season (although like Herrera, the first might actually have been 19 upon his low-A debut). Name the first.

Hint: He is still in the system.

High-A Wisconsin has lost 4 of 5 games in Cedar Rapids this week and has RHP Justin Jarvis  (3.97 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 10.0 K/9 in 115 2/3 innings) starting as they try to salvage the final game. SS Eduardo Garcia has hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games:

Sheeesh, 2006 takes us back to the Mike Guerrero led Low-A West Virginia Power of the South Atlantic League. Yowzers. At first glance I said to myself: “Herrera is 19.” LOL. And he’s 19 for his first Low-A start. But, I see the tricky wording here and he literally turned 19 4 days ago. Ok ok ok.

Anyhow, it’s Sunday and I’m lazy but I’ll play along. I am going to guess - even though I’m fairly certain it’s wrong as I think he has a February birthday and he played age 18 in the now ACL (?) and then played his age 19 season in Wisconsin (then Low-A) - RHP Justin Jarvis.

2006 was because that is as far back as Fangraphs went, and their setup makes it an easy source for the ages.

And good guess with Jarvis, but of the 10 overall 18 year olds, the only draft pick was Feliciano.

Well, to be fair your trivia question specifies a pitcher. I had a very hard time considering this as I'm fairly certain - since 2006 at least - the youngest have been Jarvis and a Wily Peralta? Anywho, I might have guessed Feliciano...but, well, he's a position player. ? Regardless, thanks for bringing up my historical stat brain on a Sunday. It was fun.

No, I was basically saying the pitcher wasn’t a draft pick. I will admit, this answer is pretty obscure. I don’t think he ever got a point in any of our prospect polls.

Ohhhhhh. Ok. I get you now. I was like: "Wait, what?" LOL.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, then, LHP Kodi Madeiros was 18 when he started his first season in Wisconsin. Off the top of my gourd, he turned 19 in early June? This obviously doesn't qualify for the 'He's still in the system' requirement but I'm rummaging through roster recall. LOL. Unless, of course, by system you mean the Minor League system? Anyhow, he's not obscure either and I now officially give up and await any others' responses and the answer.

Biloxi’s “continuation game” from yesterday is underway, picking up in the top of the 5th inning with our team trailing Montgomery 11-2.

They’ll play a 7-inning game thereafter which I’d bet will be more competitive.

That’s a solid Low-A debut for RHP Yujanyer Herrera, giving up just 1 run on 3 hits in 5 innings.

Carolina leads Fayetteville 2-1 going into the 6th inning, with RHP Miguel Guerrero coming on in relief after a rain delay. RF Hedbert Perez has a solo homer, his 15th blast of 2022.

AAA Nashville leads their series in Jacksonville 3-1, which will conclude with a doubleheader today. RHP Tyler Herb starts the opener, aiming to continue his solid run (2.45 ERA over last 33 innings). CF Sal Frelick comes in with a 10-game on-base streak:

Hello, DH/INF Alberis Ferrer! After the Woodpeckers tied up the game 2-2 with a run in the top of the 7th inning, Ferrer comes through with a 2-run homer in the bottom half in just his 2nd game back from injury. RHP Jeison Pena has come in to pitch the 8th inning. Carolina leads 4-2.

2B Eric Brown Jr. and 1B Jesus Chirinos have added insurance runs for the Mudcats with 2 solo homers in the top of the 8th inning. It's now 6-2.

That's Brown's 3rd homer of the year and I really don't remember the scouting profile saying that he had this much pop. It's awesome!

Something tells me the Sounds are still buzzing after that Friday dust-up with Jacksonville, as they've opened up tonight's Game One with 5 consecutive hits to score 4 runs (Frelick double, blazing Ruiz infield single, Turang RBI single, Singleton 2-RBI double, Reyes RBI single). Show no mercy!!

And RHP Jeison Pena retired 6 of 7 batters to close out the 2-inning save for a 6-2 Carolina win. That's a 6-0 series sweep of Fayetteville!!

RHP Justin Jarvis faced consistent traffic, but kept the Timber Rattlers in the game by limiting Cedar Rapids to just 2 runs in 5 1/3 innings (exiting with a man on first). Wisconsin's offense woke up in the top half of that inning to tie it 2-2 on a Pinero double, two singles (Mercado bunt, Metzinger normal) and a wild pitch.

However, the game went immediately south with Jarvis' exit, as the Kernels rocked RHP Joey Matulovich with 2 homers, a triple and 2 walks to take a 7-2 lead. It's now 7-3 in the top of the 8th inning after a C Darrien Miller solo homer.

Having finished off the remaining innings of yesterday's suspended game, Biloxi and Montgomery now follow-up with full 9-inning face-off. RHP TJ Shook (3.86 ERA in High-A/AA) gets the start, knowing a win is needed to salvage a 3-3 series split. DH/SS Andruw Monasterio's on-base streak has now reached 20 games:

Hmmm. SS Pablo Reyes has exited in the bottom of the 4th inning with what I can only imagine is an injury. But showing how committed they are to giving Brice Turang time at third base, it's Weston Wilson who comes in to play shortstop, his first such action at short this season.

Sounds lead 5-0 in the 5th inning of this 7-inning doubleheader opener.
