Well, that's just spiffy

It really is. It went from the opposing announcer stating: "Well, Rosenthal looks healthy. He's touching 96-97 mph with ease. It certainly looks like he's tuning up for a return to the Major Leagues."...to losing location, falling apart, and getting pulled after a mound visit. It friggin' sucked. ?

what did we give up for  Rosenthal again

If you're asking literally, Tristan Peters. If you're making a point, ie, we didn't give up much for him(as others have argued), then I'd argue he is pretty obviously blocked, but he's the type of guy you could use as a trade chip a year into the future and he'd performed pretty well in his first full year. A hitter who's reached AA. So not a huge deal, but the very type of player who a year from now would fit the "near MLB ready prospect," label so many teams seem interested in for the 2nd tier players on the trade market.

Well...I guess we have to hope that it's just him working his way back after not having pitched for a while.

Not much else we can do at this point. It was always a little foolish to count on him coming back and being dominant, but if he can come back and get his feel back...well, he could still help.

It's hard to say. We'll just have to wait. His pitch count was elevated. He lost location. And, he was visited by the catcher, manager, and trainer. After talking with the trainer and making some gestures, he left the mound. The announcer was indicating: "It looks like he's coming off with an injury." Given his recent history and age, this certainly feels like a possibility. BUT, who really knows. It could have simply been a nagging something.

It's really hard to understand how pinch-runner Reidy Mercado failed to score the tying run here:

Was a slide into third base necessary even if the ball was handled cleanly? This was a head scratcher.

Ya know, as much as I enjoy your details on all the play by play, the way you describe Ruiz's perfect bunts, Weimer's cannon, Mitchell going the other way, etc...etc...every once in a while...I'd prefer ignorance!?

I'm sure it's something else and the odds of him helping have plummeted after this outing...but I'm still hoping we win a WS, so I don't jump off a bandwagon until it crashes into Clayton Ravine...

Fair enough. I'm going to stay patient with the old caballo. I'm going to say: a fingernail or a sudden onset of a blister. That's my take. ? From the post-game press release:

Durham came back to grab a 6-5 lead when Josh Lowe drilled a three-run homer off rehabbing Brewers reliever Trevor Rosenthal. After Rosenthal followed the homer with a four-pitch walk, he departed the game with Sounds athletic trainer Jeff Paxson.

That should have been in blue. I was kidding. I appreciate all the details and have all year! The good along with the occasional ugly...
