RHP Alexander Cornielle’s 2nd start for Wisconsin - can he fine tune off a decent debut? Versus Lansing, his debut, he tossed: 5 1/3 IP, 7 H, 3 BB, 1 HB, 1 HR, 8 K, 2 R.

Can LHP Brandon Knarr stack successful outings? Last time out versus the Lookouts he went 6IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 6 K, 0R.

21-year old RHP Alexander Cornielle makes his 2nd start for Wisconsin (5 1/3 IP, 2 R, 7 H, 8 Ks in his first game), who seek to grab a 3-1 series lead in Peoria. 19-year old DH/C Jeferson Quero has homered in 2 of his last 3 games:

Carolina needs a win to even their home series against Columbia 2-2 and has RHP Max Lazar making his 2nd rehab start with the team. 18-year old LF Luis Castillo comes in with a 13-game on-base streak:

Top pitching prospect 23-year old LHP Robert Gasser (3.82 ERA in High-A/AA) makes his AAA debut as Nashville hosts Memphis, with the Sounds needing every possible win to fend off 2nd-place Columbus (2.5 games back). 1B Jon Singleton started September with a bang yesterday, reaching base in all 5 plate appearances while collecting 4 hits and 3 RBIs;

With his homer tonight, Chourio has 8 home runs in 25 games at Wisconsin. Not sure we have ever seen a talent like this in our system, which is admittedly a very bold statement.

That’s two really good outings in a row for Knarr. He completes 7IP w 9K tonight. Shuckers win 4-2 on the back of two Corey Ray ding dongs. I love it.

Gasser had a rough start but knowing his work ethic he’ll take those learnings and improve upon them. He’s going to face much more patient hitters up in the International League. This is a great test and a smart promotion.

RHP Alexander Cornielle: just another fantastic pitching prospect left out of the Top 30 by MLB Pipeline’s purported ‘Top 30’ list. He shows tonight the future is indeed incredibly bright for the dynamic trio.

I know how they look in camp will factor in, but I wonder how many of Cornielle, Cruz and Rodriguez end up in Biloxi to start 2023.

That’s a really interesting proposition and the Southern League is a really hard place to pitch. We’ll have to wait and see but if they did, I’d imagine they’d go in the order they were promoted?

Hell of a bounce back inning for Cam Robinson in a tight spot (Sounds leading 6-5 headed to the ninth inning) who gives up a hit but strikes out 2 and puts up a scoreless frame. This Nashville/Columbus divisional race is looking like it could come down to the wire. If the Sounds relievers can put up another scoreless frame that’ll be back to a 3.5 game lead (Columbus lost to the Cubbies at home for the second time this week). Sounds would move to a Dodger-like 28 games over .500.

I’ll always benchmark against Gary Sheffield, who we kept in Low-A for his entire age-18 season: 17 homers, 103 RBIs, 81 walks, 48 Ks.

He then skipped High-A and spent most of his age-19 season split between AA/AAA hitter’s heaven: 28 homers, 119 RBIs, 56 walks, 63 Ks, before getting 89 MLB plate appearances that same year.

Let’s hope for an amazing 2023 in AA/AAA for Chourio, including evening up his BB/K ratio, though I’d imagine his present MLB debut track is more likely late May 2024 (unless the Super-2 rules have changed).

If he's THAT good, maybe we try and Wander Franco him?

I know you're really just giving a realistic timeframe for when to expect him should everything continue to go well, but IF he continues to perform like he has, I wonder if...maybe we decide he's the type of talent who gets a long term deal before playing in Milwaukee(or shortly after he starts in Milwaukee).

Something I've found interesting is how aggressively we seem to be promoting players compared to past years (in-season). With pitchers it could portend a possible need after the next couple years due to some of the contracts, but it doesn't seem like anyone is really being put in over their heads either.

Along with the guys CheeseheadinQC mentioned, I'll be interested in seeing where Misiorowski lands at the beginning of '23.

In this age of cybermetrics, that's one very simple thing I've always looked at for years as I think it can tell you a lot about a player. While the BA at Wisconsin isn't as gaudy as it was in Carolina he is K'ing a bit less, but still hitting home runs at a much higher rate. Just so much fun to see a kid like that develop.

I don't think an arrival sometime in '24 is far-fetched at all.

Early returns suggest he should be in the pitcher's lab.

Why does Areinamo hit so low in the order? He has the best batting average.

1) It is a 32 pitch sample.

2) Won’t he likely spend some time there from October-February?

I agree.  I don't ever recall this many promotions in-season.  I think its due to a number of factors:

  1. The lost 2020 season has resulted in less time evaluation time for the Brewers.  They only get 4-5 years before Rule 5 eligible and 6 years before minor league free agency.  Need to push these players to determine if they are worth adding to the 40 man roster.
  2. Even though they lost playing time in 2020, they physically matured a full year in 2020.  Maybe the players worked out in the weight room and put on more muscle mass.  So skipping a level or promoting quickly still makes sense.
  3. The talent level in the system is really good.  These guys are young and getting pushed hard, but most are still succeeding.  I think this org is better than the evaluators are giving them credit.
