I think there is still some hope for him. He lacks the plus velocity so he probably needs to work on cut or sink action for movement. And he needs a reliable third pitch if he is going to stick as a starter

There's definitely hope. He really really needs to develop, hone, and (in the very least) implement his 3rd and 4th pitches. He has them. Really, he does.

Yeah...it's kinda amazing how people are treating him like a red headed step son at this point.

We've been a bit spoiled with these flame throwers, but the comp for him coming out was Rich Hill...so I just keep kinda going back to early Rich Hill. He struggled a bit. When you throw in the lower 90s and top out at 94, you miss your spots, it's going a long way. But he's got a big curve, signs of a nice change up.

From what our Minor League Reporters on here, it seems like he's kinda lost confidence and then gives in. That accurate?

I'm never a huge fan of taking guys with lower ceilings in the 1st round, but I still think Small develops into a 4 or 5. That's valuable.

The Brewers getting the most out of just about all the talented pitchers they've brought up the past few years...we're getting spoiled. Gasser isn't helping on that count either...

Erceg works a scoreless 8th inning.

This just in:

Lucas Erceg has seriously only allowed 2 runs in his past 19 2/3 IP. Considering where he was when he began 2022 in Biloxi, this is just jaw dropping incredibly awesome. I'm truly just so happy for this young man.

And your guy Devanney with a 2B and 3BB's in 5 PAs.

They Brewers better smack Ashcraft around tomorrow after the Sounds pounded him earlier this week for 6ER.

It'd be just a perfect encapsulation of this season to see the Sounds do better vs the same pitcher the Brewers have. Great for the future...not great for this years playoff chances. But hey, at least these guys are on their way to Milwaukee.
