Brewers-Rays Saturday Afternoon -- Lauer of the Brewers vs. Eflin of the Rays

I mean Jesse Winker has his bags backed for a DFA, right? 3 XBH, can’t run, can’t play defense. They’d  be better off rotating Tellez, Ruf, Yelich, Anderson, Miller  etc through the DH slot than giving away automatic outs with Winker

I'd rather have a Voit/Ruf DH platoon than see Winker. Voit can hit the RHP and Ruf the LHP.

These guys aren’t dumb, with getting bounced in ‘21 and collapsing down the stretch in ‘22 they saw the writing on the wall.
It’s likliest reason why Stearns already resigned and Counsell is on an expiring contract

Stearns has wanted the Mets job ever since Cohen bought the team. Counsell is a Wisconsin guy but is at the point where he looks like he knows the situation is so bleak going forward that he will just walk away and retire unless he has the fire to follow Stearns to the Mets.

How embarrassing is it to have these options for DH.

I don't blame CC and Stearns for being fed up SINCE we cannot retain/sign stars very well given the MLB payroll structure and our very-small-market status ... it's a frustrating uphill battle that sees little hope or fairness in it all.

Nonsense.  Tampa is small market team and look at them.  The Brewers are not a well run organization.

Tampa is an absolute outlier but the fact remains its an uphill battle competing with teams that have 2-4 times the payroll we do.

Why?

Voit had a 116 wRC+ vs RHP last season and a career 129 wRC+ vs RHP.

Ruf had a 116 wRC+ vs LHP last season and a career 142 wRC+ vs LHP.

That 116 wRC+ platoon would have been the 9th best DH performance in the MLB last season.

Key words are "last season". Have you even seen Voit play this season?

But they show it CAN be done.

You know the Brewers will not play him like that so his success against RHP doesn't matter on this team.

Just another example of stats, especially advanced stats, saying anything you want them to say. Utterly useless and a good way to lose me. No manager in their right mind would play Voit every day.

...this was in response to me suggesting I would rather have a Voit/Ruf DH platoon than a Winker/Ruf or Winker/Voit DH platoon.

brewers888 said that's a pathetic DH platoon so I cited numbers showing it would be a top 10 DH platoon based on last year's numbers.

I never said the Brewers would actually use that DH platoon but it's what I personally would want.

Voit has sucked against LHP this year. That's it. He still looks good against RHP but his role has left him hitting against a ton of LHP.

It can but that would require having the best front office in baseball which is something we can do if we were to bring in John Hart or Jeff Luhnow and let Arnold follow Mr Met to New York.

I've seen enough of Voit to not want him in the lineup and how many teams have to release Ruf for us to  realize he isn't any good.

No way Voit/Ruf will be a top 10 anything this season.

I know things aren’t going well right now but to suggest the Brewers aren’t a well run organization seems a little over the top.

limited payroll…..small market……and the 3rd best record in the NL since 2017……….https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/ask/mlb-team-with-most-wins-since-2017

It’s not a question of whether they’re competently run, I think the answer is yes. But clearly they don’t have the horses to hang with real contending clubs, and with the team control of their stars dwindling the writing has been on the wall for sometime.

You know what. You're absolutely right! You know better than the numbers! Brewers need to get you into their FO ASAP and you can teach Arnold how to run a baseball org!

Tampa is an exceptional case, no doubt ... BUT have they won a World Series?  The Brewers have been close since 2018, too, BUT have they won a World Series?

Face it ... the World Series winning teams have top-10 payrolls or very near it almost every single year ... the competitive advantage that big-market teams have is undeniable.

Not this stupid conspiracy theory again.  The magical curving JFK bullet conspiracy and flat earthers are more believable than this trash.
