Scherzer's third and fourth most recent starts didn't go well at all, but his two most recent have been 14 inning, 16 strikeouts, 3 earned runs, and he's really avoided the walks. To get to him, you're going to have to hit

Fortunately they only lose a 1/2 game with a loss but would be nice to be tied for first and win a 4 game series heading into the weekend.

I'm all game for adding Hiura back into the mix. But he's gotta play everyday. With Tellez and Winker both LHH, it's just too tempting for CC to sit Hiura against righties and play him only against lefties. For it to work, he has to play Hiura everyday and then choose which of Tellez/Winker sits. If we could do that over the next month it could really clear up the 1B/DH situation so we can decide at that point if we need to go outside the organization to find a 1B, a DH, or both before the deadline.

Move Keston around a bit in the field, then?  2nd base (oh, those throws, though!)?  Occasionally in the outfield?  DH?

Or we could get Jedd Gyrko out of retirement!  He was our best hitter in the COVID season of 2020!

If Winker could pay 1B sure but I don’t want to see Hiura at 1B ever again nor at 2B.  A broom with a glove on it would be better at 1B than Hiura.

Think tonight either ends in a big win or a big loss. Brewers bullpen is a bit ravaged at the moment, so we might see Houser and Pannone eat innings tonight even if it means an L.

Williams has pitched 3 of the last 4 days. Payamps had that slip/ankle roll so he could be down for a day. Peguero has pitched 4 of the last 5 days. Milner has pitched 4 of the last 5 days. Wilson has pitched 2 days in a row.

I could see a world where Pannone and Bush are our only available RP tonight.

I want to see us run when it's advantageous to us. I bring this up because it may be necessary tonight to get people moving to generate offense & also because it seemed to slip our minds yesterday. Wiemer had two excellent opportunities to run & remained anchored at 1B the entire AB, and Yelich reached once w/two out but Contreras swung at the 1st pitch, not even giving him a chance to run. Should've been a lot more aware of the opportunities w/ Senga throwing.

If Hiura makes it back, they'd better only let him bring a 1B mitt with him. And maybe hide it on him once he arrives.

100% agreed.  Having him get 6-8 at bats per week tells us nothing.  Play him full time for the next month and see what happens.  Let Winker and Rowdy battle it out for the open spot, not like either deserve to be playing now anyways.

Saw something this afternoon that you don’t see too often. In the top of the 10th with two outs, Jose Ramirez flat stole home by getting a big jump on a LHP. He was called out, but was clearly safe and the call was reversed onreview.

Ramirez’s bold dash was to no avail as the Royals won in the last of the 10th.

That was a very fun play. I don't recall the last time I saw a true steal of home like that.

Devin Williams threw 13 pitches yesterday, didn't pitch the day before, and threw six pitches the day before that.  Peguero threw 9 pitches yesterday, didn't pitch the day before, and threw six pitches the day before that.

I'd be surprised if those guys are unavailable.

If we're going to buy, the most immediate need is a run producer in the middle of the lineup. Move Willy to the bottom of the order. DFA Rowdy.

Since we're two innings into the game without a post, let me just say Turang is making his presence known right away.

The kid has a great glove and arm ! But excellent instincts ! If he just get that bat going ! The again we're batting Adames third so I guess the bat don't matter.
