Sorry, but I just don't see Arnold and company being sellers right now, unfortunately.

Until the organization gets their crap together at the top I'm not sure I want them buying or selling.

If they trade away Burnes and get crap in return because they cant judge or develop hitting then whats the point.

But then again if they hang onto him and get nothing that's bad as well.

It's kind of a no win scenario right now with offensive ineptitude at the helm of the franchise.

I suspect that Braves series took a lot of the starch out of the guys.  It ain't fun getting your head bashed in like that knowing you might have to face them again should you get into the playoffs later on and then get thrashed again.

It looks like all the bashing took something out of the Braves too as they are going down meekly to the Angels. The Braves last 6 series:

Lose 2 of 3 to White Sox

Lose 2 of 3 to Diamondbacks

Win 2 of 3 over Brewers

Lose 2 of 2 to Red Sox

Win 3 of 3 over Brewers.

Lose first to Angels

So, 5-1 vs Brewers…2-7 vs other teams. They are good but they aren’t as invincible as the Brewers made them look

I'm sure I will get called out for this but I'm not sure that Arnold is going to be here after this season.

You guys just don't seem to get it. Why is the run differential negative? Very simple answer...the offense, the offense, the offense. The answer was never to sell, it was always to load up on bats. That should have started in the off season. Now they will go weakly into the off season simply because they NEVER EVER EVER get good bats in the off season, and they don't get good enough one's at the deadline. I honestly don't know how all of you do it, and stick with this team/organization every year when it's the same thing year after year after year. You all are very patient and truly dedicated fans, I have to hand it to you.

Agreed we spend a bunch of money on Brian Anderson, Voit, Hiura as well as all the in-season pickups (Ruf, Tapia, etc.). You could add Winker as well but I think most of us were ok with that. The problem is none of those guys have much upside. If we just found 1 better bat for similar value (Bellinger, Drury) and filled the hole in with our depth things would be better.

Yes, but you got to beat the easy teams

We were swept by Oakland and we’re fighting for the division. How many years were we just mid-pack fodder, not playing meaningful games in September. I remember those years all too well.

To do what? Be a GM elsewhere? He has a wonderful opportunity here.

I am pretty up in the air about him. For most of Stearns tenure the Brewers have been average to poor offensively so I'm not sure one year is enough to fix that.

But.....unless significant changes are made to how they draft and develop hitters his stay will be short.

Its curious that his contract runs out after this season and he hasn't been extended as far as we know.

Its funny because I go back and forth on whether or not we should want him running this team. Overall I think we should but I do think there are better executives out there.

Its kind of strange that the analytics guys never mention our negative run differential when that tells a lot about this team.

The run differential can be misleading when you have a few really lopsided losses.

In the Brewers case they win more than their share of the close games and some times have conceded and surrendered a lot of runs when games were out of reach. Like giving up 18 or whatever it was against the Cardinals.

My biggest concern all along has been that the weak offense produces almost no easy wins meaning that the bullpen has to be used heavily in almost every win. Look at their day by day results and there are precious few wins without saves, especially in the last two months, and most of those require 3 or 4 relievers. That eventually might take a toll, and Peguero seems to be showing signs of it the last week.

I'm too lazy to look it up but don't we have an incredibly good record in one run games which is something that usually evens out some over time.

Melvin couldn't draft and develop pitching...now stearns/Arnold couldn't draft and develop hitting....

Pay no attention to what's currently behind the curtain down in AA, btw...NOTHING TO SEE THERE!!!

This is probably the Irrational Observation of the Year, but I consider Adames as the personification of our "can't deliver" lineup.

I see him as the personification of this franchises "slow pitch" approach to hitting.

Like someone said earlier in this thread, Willy needs a day off.

When/if they get to the bigs and produce and don't have a whole host of mechanical issues that are quickly exposed I will eat my words. Till then...this organization sucks at drafting and developing hitting and has for at least the last decade.

Since this is an in-game thread.........

When Burnes left the mound after the sixth I was wondering about the conversation in the dugout, or if there was one. He wasn't on top of his game but I wanted him to come back out if he was lobbying to do so. No mention in post-game from CC though.

Big picture the ABs tonite were pretty good. Ten hits, could've easily been more. What I didn't like was the big moments. The team several games under .500 put up a lot brainier ABs in those situations than we did. Monasterio & Caratini both 1st pitch DPs on balls that weren't even close to being squared up, one vs a reliever who just entered the game & has walked people in his stints. We've scored runs lately but still too many times where the moment seems to get a little too big for whoever is at the plate.

I watch Joey Wiemer hit & I think "incomplete". Just soooo far from a finished product. Still, he's probably going to finish the season with around 20 HRs. Glad he's here.

This is exactly why the absolutely NEED to sign and/or trade for bats in the off season. THAT should be their organizational philosophy. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. And by signing bats in the off season, I'm not talking about 1 year reclamation projects that they love.

I just cringe watching him hit. Excellent hand-eye coordination and complete train wreck mechanically. No way he should have been allowed to get through the minors without correction. I dont care what numbers he puts up down there because he can never reach his potential without change and now your going to waste his big league years trying to fix what should have been forced on him early.

We have been bruised and we have bled!

Let's give the ball to Fred!  And get ahead!

It's a new day

versus

Gray!

It won't hurt to pray!

Burnes was at 95 pitches and had given us 6 good innings while struggling some with his command. I think his night was done. I hope our incredible bullpen run will get back on track. It's let us down the last couple of games.

With the right people working with him it could take one off-season. Also, the adjustment(s) might not be as pronounced as we all think. It's where his swing, hips, head etc are at point of contact. Not that he doesn't need to go in the shop, but I've seen some weird initial stances at the plate that worked for people.

If his setup has looked like this throughout his pro career, and why it was left alone, I have no answer.

That question could be asked of pretty much everyone not named Frelich coming out the minors.

He does look like he taking a good whack at a piñata.
