So how about Pedro Ibarguen? He's on a heater right now and has fully established himself as a name to watch in the ACL next season. 2-2 today with a 3B, HR, 4 RBI

Who doesn't love DSL baseball? Dodgers Mega brought in Rancer Adon and he proceeded to face 4 batters issuing 4 BB with 6 WP...just crazy stuff in the DSL.

Ibarguen is looking like the 2023 version of 2022 Juan Baez: young (just turned 17) and performing without pre-hype and probably a low signing bonus.

With the solid offensive production, they’ve also rewarded him with time at a premium position (CF) over the past month.

Baseball 'Merica gave him a nod before the season began fwiw. I won't share the article as it's behind a paywall but I'll certainly share a snippet here:

Quote

Pedro Ibarguen, a $60,000 signing from Venezuela, is another infield sleeper in the class. Ibarguen, 16, trained as a shortstop, though he might fit best at third base, where he has an above-average arm, but he could see time at shortstop and potentially all three outfield spots as well given his athleticism. He’s a strongly-built 5-foot-10, 180-pound righthanded hitter with a good mix of hard contact and athleticism.

This passage had me highlight his running tally in my spreadsheets. He's been in my purview. He absolutely did not disappoint <cough, Mr. Ereu...cough>. And, with the Brewers PD I highlighted on Tuesday in my Report there is quite a bit to like in his swing. It has distinct shades of 3B Brock Wilken. Like Wilken it seems quite obvious he packs some punch in that frame. Strong young man.

I should add, he has actually played the vast majority of his innings in CF and 2B (76 innings and 60 1/3  innings, respectively). Which was quite surprising to me. So it goes in the DSL. It will be very interesting to see what they do stateside.

That's how you end up on Dodgers Mega instead of the Dodgers Bautista juggernaut.

Oh yeah baby, I share your possible first looks at Low-A Dylan O'Rae. I've made mention to this opening catch in CF in both reports this week. Shows his speed, his range, and his fearlessness. He's such an interesting prospect y'all:

Picturing his physique and possible pounds put on (intelligently, obviously) over the next 3-5 years has me all sorts of baseball daydreaming.

I mean, the Mega are quite good themselves. It's uncanny how they've dominated that DSL division. And, perhaps it was a portent to the inevitable shellackings the Crew were to face at LA? It certainly felt inevitable. They're in my head, Sveum! 😅

First look at RHP Daniel Corniel from his most recent ACL start. The first thing that pops for me here is the Brewers absolutely have a RHP type in the mold of: Ryne MooreIsrael Puello (may he be thriving wherever he is), Joseph Hernandez, and Evan McKendry. You could probably loosely toss in Ryan Middendorf here. Corniel fits into this 'genre'. It's interesting if nothing else. That's my take.

Nashville welcomes RHP Colin Rea for his first AAA start since early April, as they seek to grab a 2-1 series lead at home over Charlotte. Yesterday’s hero 1B Rowdy Tellez (3-run walk-off homer) is back for more action.

High-A Wisconsin is tied 1-1 in their series at Cedar Rapids, with RHP Alexander Cornielle (5.18 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 8.9 K/9 in 66 IP) getting tonight’s start. CF Luis Lara, DH Brock Wilken and 3B Mike Boeve are now fixtures atop and at the heart of the lineup.

Low-A Carolina aims to take a 2-1 series lead in Kannapolis, with birthday boy (now 20) RHP Yujanyer Herrera making his 11th start (18th appearance). This is Tayden Hall’s first start in the outfield in 2023, after two OF starts in 2022.

The AA Shuckers are going for a 3rd straight win at Mississippi, with RHP Tobias Myers (5.47 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 10.9 K/9 in 102 IP) on the mound. 1B Wes Clarke is tied for the organizational lead with 19 HRs.

Jace Avina has been a different player these past 2 months. 2-run shot here gives the Mudcats a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning.

Been busy in Kannapolis since that Avina blast.

O’Rae (1-3, BB), Jadher (3-4, 2B, SB), Adams (2-4, 2B), Chirinos (1-4, HR), Tayden Hall (2-3, BB), Avina (3-4, HR, 2B), Barrios (2-4, SB) and Nicasia (1-2, 2B, BBx2) have all chipped in to what is currently a 10-6 Carolina lead at the stretch.

Tyler Wehrle will presumably return to the mound bottom of seven after recording the final two outs of the sixth.

Wisco currently trailing 5-2 with Je’Von Ward (2-3, HR) leading the way.

Boeve has singled and walked while Lara, Moore, Wilken and Jheremy Vargas have each singled.

Tanner Shears got through the sixth in six pitches with a K. Retired first two batters bottom of seven but has followed it up with a trio of walks. (mound visit)

TRats have Wilken, Boeve, Hendry due up top of eight.

Cannonballers grabbed two more off Wehrle in the 7th. 10-8 Mudcats as they are  precariously holding on with their top of the order coming to the dish.

Tobias Myers goes seven strong with 2 R | 6 H | 3 BB | 9 K followed by Ryan Middendorf striking out two in a twelve pitch scoreless eighth.

Carlos Rodriguez (2-5, SB) had a big two RBI single while Chourio (3-5, SB), Collins (1-3, BBx2), Clarke (1-3, BB), Murray (1-3, BB) and Warren (2-4) have all been on multiple times.

As I’m typing Collins singles home Rodriguez and Chourio, Now 6-2 Biloxi top of nine.

Oh man. Costello gave up a game-losing 3-spot in the bottom of the 9th. A rare Mudcats bullpen collective meltdown. That one stings.

Patrick Dorrian hit his 20th of the year too, though it was kind of a wall scraper by his standards at only 101.5 MPH and 399 feet.

At this point he has to be in the discussion for a call up or for roster consideration next year as an IF/UT, right?
