A Miguel Briceno double scores Juan Baez, who had singled earlier, to give ACL Crew a 2-0 lead heading to bottom of four.

Miguel Briceno’s relativity limited playing time in the ACL suggests he’s not a favored prospect, while his high BABIP further suggests some luck. But his average is now .325 after a double and single today, after a .320 AVG last year.

The recently-turned 20-year old is doing everything he can to beat the odds and be given more opportunities in 2024, including playing the corner outfield spots, third base and second base.

ACL Crew cooking up some more runs with a Pratt double followed by three consecutive walks of EBJ, Eduarqui, and Bitonti.

Bases loaded, one out, new pitcher on for Baez, who sac flys one more home.

Now up 4-0 heading to bottom five.

Mudcats added two more in the top of ten after O’Rae’s sac fly via Areinamo double, Tayden Hall single and Luke Adams triple.

Yerlin Rodriguez on yo try and close it out.

TRats trailing 5-3 bottom of five,

Wilken has an RBI triple while Boeve is 2-3 with an RBI of his own.

Like these two in this lineup

Checking his game log looks like he was maybe dealing with a injury in June playing only 4 games - the 8th, 9th, 14th and 24th.

Has been playing with more frequency in July/August and is up to 10th in PAs entering tonight’s game so arrow definitely appears to be pointing up.

Nice game by mudcats. Top of the order (orae, arenaimo, hall, adams) with a solid game. Y. Rodriguez made it interesting with 2 walks. But closes the door.

I don’t really understand why MLB teams didn’t select many hitters in the last Rule 5 Draft, given that they’re now forced to have 13 position players on their roster.

That said, INFs Cam Devanney and Patrick Dorrian are both making a case for selection this winter. But perhaps MLB teams will keep focusing 80%+ of their attention on pitchers.

ACL Brewers blew a 4-0 lead (falling 7-4 to ACL Mariners) and their chance to clinch the Central division title, but thankfully the ACL Reds also lost.

Magic number is now 1 game, with 2 regular season games left for the Crew and 3 left for the Reds.

Rehabbing SS Eric Brown Jr. homered, walked. was hit-by-pitch and stole a base. Each of 2B/SS Cooper Pratt and RF Miguel Briceno doubled and singled.

LHP Tate Kuehner started and faced the minimum over 2 innings, but got significant help (line out DP, CS, another out on batter interference). RHPs Josh Timmerman and Edrian Robinson added 3 scoreless innings. RHP Darling Solano and LHP Anfernny Reyes gave up 7 runs (4 earned) over 3 innings as the game slipped away.

Gasser building  back to back great starts no Walks and Max Lazar. Quietly having a nice year

There are just so many players in this system having great years. Both ranked and unranked prospects. The best part is it's pretty much all age-appropriate guys performing as well.

Eric Brown Jr. homered in his first plate appearance of the evening for ACL Brewers.

This makes me happy. I hope he ends his season healthy and raking.

I'm still a bit concerned about O'Rae's bat. There's absolutely no pop there and I'm not sure there will ever be any pop there. BUT he just is exceptional at everything else. Amazing plate discipline. Great bat control. Great speed and baserunning instincts. He seems to be a smooth fielder with nice range, but the sample is very small so far. The arm look very weak just like the bat. There's just a lot of good things to work with right now. If he develops any gap power, you have a guy who could be an MLB utility infielder someday.

Does Murray have a chance to make the show? He's been pretty solid and was a fairly high draft pick.

That 2021 draft is looking pretty great (if only we drafted Abbott instead of Smith though).

1. Frelick - already making an impact in the MLB in all aspects of the game

Comp-A. Black - Top 100 prospect already in AAA

4. Henderson - Absolutely dominating Low-A after injury issues the last 1.5 years. Has #2 SP upside imo.

5. Murray - 112 wRC+ in 367 AA PA as a solid up the middle infielder

6. Rodriguez - One of the best AA SP as a 21 year old and locked in Top 10 prospect in our system

9. Jordan - Really solid season as a RP in A+ before getting injured last month

10. Clarke - 119 wRC+ in 864 PA as a professional with 41 2B and 38 HR

13. Low - Has shown flashes of extremely high pitcher upside

14. Avina - wRC+ over 120 in nearly 500 PA as a 19/20 year old in A ball

That's 9 guys who have shown some form of being legit prospects.

Probably comes down to how good the glove is at SS.

Even with Zamora’s throwing issues, he’s still got 588 innings at SS for Biloxi this year compared to 366 innings at SS for Murray.

Otherwise their offensive lines are pretty close…

Zamora
271/373/391 (110 wRC+)
12.7 BB% | 20.8 K%
15/3 SB/CS

Murray
266/383/380 (111 wRC+)
14.8 BB% | 20.3 K%
10/4 SB/CS

Ethan is a year and a half younger than Freddy too.

Someone mentioned how Lazar is quietly having a solid year. I think Murray mirrors that among INFs as it's easy to overlook him with all the other SS & 2B types doing good things. Not as flashy & not as able to make the highlight-reel play as his teammate Zamora but IMO much more reliable. They both have a chance because bench guys who are INFs & can play SS are valuable.

Definitely looks like a 2B-OF type that needs to find the right niche. But he's so damn fun to pull for.

If he ever develops enough arm strength that you can trust him at SS on a fill-in basis (questionable, I know) I'd bet on him finding a spot on a roster someday.

Tyler Black showing some signs of coming out of his funk. Couple more hits tonight including two RBI’s.

Black was 4-30 in his last handful of games for Biloxi, so the dry spell goes back a ways. But he's still drawing his walks, and as you said appears to be re-emerging.

I've wondered if moving him around the infield had an effect.

Good news: Dylan O’Rae leads off the 8th with a single, goes 1st to 3rd on a groundout to the pitcher, then scores on wild pitch to tie it up at five apiece.

😲.

Heck, he might find a roster spot someday just to be sent up to hit in the 8th or 9th inning of a tie game.😄

Ethan Small quietly figuring some things out as well. Aside from his lone start for Nashville this year, he's been a solid reliever. And in July and August combined, he's only walked 2 batters while striking out 13 in 12 innings pitched
