As we head into the make-or-break Shuckers homestand, I am officially on CF Jackson Chourio slump watch. He continues to look rushed and inconsistent in his mechanics at the plate. We know this can all change in the blink of a single game or a single AB, but it is worth mentioning:

0-for-2, 1 K so far today.

Now, 3-for-25 at Birmingham in their biggest series of the year to date. 0 BB, 5 K in the series. 1 3B, 1 RBI, 2 R. With the Rays' Junior Caminero just ripping a solo shot in the 7th to extend the Biscuits lead over Chattanooga 2-0, it is fair to state: the Shuckers absolutely need a better version of Chourio in their final six games. I don't think this is all that debatable. He has to be better, more composed, and find better AB's.

Fernando having Abad outing top of eight. Six up, none down.

Grand slam followed by a single and walk and now Clayton Andrews is on to try to shut things down still no outs.

Yeah, pretty interesting that on the day most MLB Brewers fans want to see Chafin cut, the organization's external answer as a possible replacement for him (Fernando Abad) gets lit up in Nashville.

Maybe we should revisit the whole Lauer super-reliever idea which the organization didn't appear interested in earlier. Ashby's progress doesn't look promising. Andrews won't likely get another chance this year. I doubt they can imagine Ethan Small on the playoff roster...

2019-2022 it seemed we could develop pitchers particularly relievers, seems like the well is drying up outside of the top 3 pitching prospects.
‘A few look ok, but most have struggled to be consistent all year long (that’s the brewers MO from big league to low minors it seems).

and the big league team could use some pitchers. Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta and Williams can’t do it all.

let’s see if some pitchers here can move up and become valuable big leaguers.

Sure, they’ve lost some games recently,  but even after today only five teams in MLB have fewer bullpen losses than the Brewers.

Their +7.76 Win Probability Added was tops in MLB entering today.

Of course Williams (+3.15 WPA) is the head of the dragon, but Payamps (+3.03), Wilson (+1.20), Milner (+1.16), Peguero (+0.96), Uribe (+0.63) and Megill (+0.26) have all made positive contributions out of the pen.

Thats seven guys the Brewers either developed as prospects (Williams, Uribe) or from nondescript-ness (Payamps, Wilson, Milner, Peguero, Megill) into positive contributors to what has been one of MLBs top bullpens all season long.

Rea also kept us in some games as an unheralded pickup and they even eked out a half dozen quality starts from a washed Teheran.

Even a vet like Miley re-discovered his success here to begin with and is putting up another quality season in his return.

Pretty crazy that Biloxi is going to need to go 15-3 over their final 3 series to make the playoffs. I think it’s going to come down to limiting the damage Caminero does.

What's crazier to me is they went 11-1 @ Tennessee and @ Birmingham and they literally made up zero games. Heck of a tightly contested finish here with the Biscuits.

And, in a season filled with record breaking mark for the Shuckers team they just set the franchise record mark with 40 Road Wins in a season. Incredible stuff we've seen in 2023 as the team got more comfortable and played their best ball when the season mattered most.

Lead off bomb from Isaac Collins has Biloxi on the board right off the bat.

What are the chances he's in our system next year and eventually gets significant time in the majors? He's had an excellent year, though he's not young for his level.

I know. But Williams is half of that. And payamps was brilliant for 2/3 of the season.  I guess Uribe could be one. But beyond that the minors are filled with the same - good first half and not great second, or good for a month or two. Hopefully someone will emerge.

Of course Uribe is one of them. I’d also add Megill to the list of stud bullpen arms, with his 100mph FB/knuckle CBcombo. Last 10.2 innings he’s K’d 21 batters. Both controlled for multiple years.

That’s quite the nasty trio to look forward to dominating big-league hitters next season.

We selected Collins in the Minor League portion of the Rule 5 draft, so my understanding is that he basically remains on our 7-year minor league course, of which this is his 5th season. So we can expect Collins to be a staple of the Sounds' lineup in 2024 and 2025.

Given his age (26), relatively limited pop and where he plays (447.2 IP in LF, 183.2 at 2B, 40.0 elsewhere), I think he's going to need a AAA OBP of .410 to get a shot in MLB, but we'll pull for him all the way!
