The Brewers may actually help the Cubs over the weekend. The Cubs are reeling and are currently tied with the Marlins in the final postseason spot. So while the Crew works to clinch the division, they may also be working toward a showdown with Chicago in the first round.

Best I can tell, Jesus Luzardo would be on full rest today. His last start against Milwaukee did not go well for the Marlins.

I did not realize that 37-year old, Johnny Cueto, is also a Marlin and sometimes spot starts.

I think I lean Reds but I'm not really sure why.

Marlins have better pitchers than the Reds. Reds also have rookies littered throughout their lineup.

Luzardo is the listed starter for tomorrow. Marlins are likely going to go with an opener for tonight.

Yeah, that was my rationale but woof, that Marlins offense. The way the Brewers' starters are pitching, they could pitch 15 innings of scoreless ball in two games against the Marlins.

Should we cap Burnes’ pitch count - e.g. 70 today, 70 on Sep 27th, then raring to go on Oct 3rd?

I was thinking about that. Depending on the game circumstance, I'd consider pulling him after 60 and would almost certainly have him out after 80.

We could easily be down to 1 (magic number) before first pitch.

You know the clubhouse attendants in MKE are happy they win the division on the road, they don't have to clean up all that champagne.

I doubt they do that. I would think they're going to approach things like normal until they officially clinch.

You might see Burnes only go like 4 innings next start though.

True. Soler and Arraez are annoying though. And Burger has insane power that could win a short series.

Is Arraez playing? He sprained his ankle and did not play the last two days.

TBD as his injury was day to day. Same with Burger who left Wednesday's game with quad tightness.

I think that I have learned that forecasting the playoffs and who you want to play is not fruitful. I remember the discussion in 21 was around hoping the Dodgers got knocked off so the Brewers wouldn't have to play them, and then the Brewers got beat up by Joc, Rosario, and the cast of July 31 misfits that Atlanta picked up. I don't want to play the Cubs in the Wild Card round, but they may be a good matchup as they stumble to the finish. I'm not going to hope for the Marlins, because while I think the Brewers are better, anything can happen in a best of three.

In 2019, the Brewers were beating the Nationals for about three hours. Then, Michael Taylor got "hit by a pitch", Grisham and Hader happened, and it was over in an instant after that, it seemed.

Also, I am remembering my hope that the Bucks would get the one seed this year to avoid playing both PHI and BOS on their way to the NBA Finals. Oops.

I wouldn't hold out much hope for a Rockies win today given they're sending out a pitcher with an ERA of almost 10. Might have to settle for the wild card clinch. Wonder if they'd pop champaign two days in a row.

I don’t think they will celebrate the wild card.    With the division a fore gone conclusion.   They will wait for that

I agree with a lot of this. Playoffs are just weird, and the difference between opponents in a three-game series is pretty marginal.

I do think the Cubs are the best team overall. Still, their bullpen is a mess, and with Steele struggling, maybe there's more vulnerability than I thought. I just don't want the emotional stakes associated with the Cubs playing playoff games in Milwaukee. That sounds very unfun.

I'd choose the Marlins over the Reds. The Marlins offense scares me slightly less, I don't like intradivision matchups, the top of the Reds pitching can be pretty darn good, etc.

It's all marginal preferences. I'm generally very at peace with the randomness of the playoffs, and will absolutely enjoy this division title regardless of what happens in the WC round. That's the goal for me every year. Win the division. Playing the Marlins also removes the possibility that our division title will be undermined by a Central team beating us in the playoffs.

Didn't we dominate the Reds this season?
