Take the points and you are up 30-27.  Dan Campbell giveth, Dan Campbell taketh.

Yeah but you are assuming they'd make the kicks.

The first one was egregious. The second one not nearly as bad. Was a long FG and the way things were trending I think the Lions had to get 7 and retake a lead. Just tying the game with 7 minutes left, IF you make the kick, IDK. I definitely understood that call.

Didn't understand the first one at all.

Goeff has been off the mark a bit and his receivers are dropping balls like they're paid to.

At least it was our DBs that were dropping balls.

Changes the whole game if he takes the first FG.   Have no idea on the differences of play calls and ensuing stuff.  It might've ended an easy Lions win for all we know.   Say they make the kick and SF has to punt next possession, its basically game over as you'd be almost to the 4th with the ball.     It was a horrible decision not take that FG, just opened the door for SF and they barged through it.

Lions eating a lot of time here.

Campbell just doesn't want to do anything that makes sense does he?

Lots to question with 2nd half go for it and clock management decisions by the Lions....despite the 49er 2nd half surge it sure feels like the Lions just got too cute with being aggressive/unorthodox, coupled with a bad fumble and a couple terrible drops and that lost them this game more than anything.

Honestly might be a super bowl I won't watch

Ironically, if the det player doesn't go after that on the fly, there's a chance that the sf player sliding in could have it bounce off of him as he wasn't in great position to catch that easily.

Having to use that timeout is just a killer though. I don't think you can let that happen.

You can't. That was an absurdly dangerous and stupid playcall. You must have those TO's given the absurdly low probability of recovering an onside kick

I don't want anyone to win the super bowl now.  My hatred for the sf team might win out in the end.

I was so traumatized by losing to Seattle that I didn't watch that game. Missed out on one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history and didn't care.

I think the fumble, the drops, and the completed pass off a  DET facemask were bigger plays.

Much like Atlanta not getting a better shot at a Lombardi Trophy than in 2016. I feel the Lions will not get a better opportunity to even play for one. They absolutely blew it tonight.

All big too but do they even happen if not for the missed FG?  Changes whole course of game.

Also not sure I'm agreeing with the narrative on the pass off facemask I've seen out there.  The throw was right on target if not for the pass interference and it doesn't him in the fact if not for that.  Chances are if defender didn't interfere it just ends up an incomplete as they both battle for the ball.   I know they 'picked up' the flag but that's just because he caught it, it was a blatant interference no matter what and didn't change much if he caught it or not

2 games for SF the opposing coaches helping them by going for 4th downs vs kicking FGs and 3pts.  This version of NFL coaches blows and exactly why Reid is running through it. By not putting the kicker in to do what he's paid for, you give them freedom from succeeding or failing.  Which takes away whether they should be on a NFL team or not.  It's one thing of they guy has a 50-54yd leg overall and the kick is 48+.  It's just another to not even trot them out there for 35-45yd FGs and take the 3pts.

Oh gotta love a 15play drive before half filled with running plays. And the drive on 1 of the non fg attempts, successful pass play 10+yes. Successful run play 10+yes.  1/4 passing 7yards. Turnover on downs.  About reason to fire the HC for that drive right there.

There was a quicksand feeling immediately after the failed 4th down conversion though. One thing after another. There's a completely different feeling in the air if they go back up 17 and a commercial break vs. a 4th down stop and the crowd roaring again.

Nobody knows how that changes the sequences after obviously, but having that 3 points may have influenced the second decision to go for it too. It was a huge moment in the game and a decision that just didn't make a lot of sense.

I don't think so either. Mainly because I think GB is about to sit on the throne again for most of the next decade.
