Now that the Burnes saga is over, it is time for Matt Arnold to finish what he has started and make the below transactions.

BTV is not the gospel but is usually pretty close with these trades so I am using their values.

Trade W.Adames (11.1) to Dodgers for N.Frasso RHP (11.0)

Trade D.Williams (19.8) to Royals for C.Wallace 3B (8.0), F.Mozzicato LHP (5.2), B.Kurda RHP (2.7) & Round A competitive balance pick (4)

Sign T.Bauer to a 1 year prove it deal or 1 plus an option

You have replaced Burnes with 2 guys to pencil into the rotation (Bauer & Frasso)

You have replaced 1 year of Adames with 6 years of Ortiz

You have replaced 2 years of Williams with 6 years of DL Hall (who I think will become a dominant closer not a starter)

And you have picked up 3 prospects from the Royals who are not in the top 100 but are in the next 100 as well as two 2024 draft picks in the mid 30's.

I guess I’m not sure why the Royals would want Williams when they’re in a major rebuild. He’ll be gone in 2 years when they might finally be out of their rebuild.

How about we replace the Royals with the Phillies for Williams?  Could we send them Williams and either Mitchell or Wiemer for Mick Abel and Griff McGarry?

With the above moves then, you'd have Frasso, Abel and McGarry as three additional stud pitching prospects to add to the organization.

Adames & Williams to the Dodgers for:

Emmet Sheehan & 500K in international bonus money.

Let’s get 6 years of a future TOR starter, and give Armstrong & co more money to do their thing.

That's more like it for me.

Williams to KC makes no sense anyway.  Not sure who came up with that rumor but it's kinda dumb.

I like Sheehan, but we better get more for both Adames and Williams than one guy. If Sheehan blows out his arm, we gave away two of our best players for nothing.

Sheehan is worth the risk.

Just a smidgen less ceiling than Bobby Miller. We’ll get a pretty decent lottery ticket with the international bonus money, so there is that.

Now that we've moved Burnes its time to move Devin and Adames. Vegas currently has the Brewers 2024 O/U wins total at 75.5 thinking we are a bottom 10 team in the sport. We have the second worst odds to win our division ahead of only the Pirates. You can argue whether or not we are a rebuilding team but the books all think we are.

I think the new strategy moving forward will be to trade guys with 2 years of control to maximize the return. While I don't think we got fleeced with the Burnes trade I do think we would have gotten a ton more in return if we had traded him a year earlier and thats why I want to trade Devin now while he has two years of control.

Sheehan Wroblewski for Adames and Williams makes a ton of sense.   It’s fair on btv fwiw.   Dodgers should have to part with Sheehan to “win” Devin Williams I feel.  And Wroblewski is the perfect arm talent prospect to get Arnold to sign off on trading two core pieces.

I’m with you 100%. No way am I giving up both Willy and Devin for one arm, and doesn’t matter how good that one arm is. I’d be good with Sheehan and someone like Wroblewski….or maybe a River Ryan.

You know Willy will be moved at some point as it written this is the brewers business plan.

as for Williams as he tied to 2 years he should get us a much better deal when Arnold pulls the trigger

Don’t think Adames gets moved.

I think Adames’s performance for us in his contract year and knowing we can get a comp pick + 2.6M in pool money plus the fact the team wants to contend this year vs what we can get prospect-wise returned, when there are so few teams likely bidding for Adames leads me to conclude he stays.

What really sad is this is what will always happen to the Brewers and their fans. They have to trade their top guys when they are unaffordable. So it’s only a matter of time before Willy and Devin are moved too. They better hope the young guys Pk reform like they are hoping or this could be a long season especially with the now very Avg Starting Rotation

Agreed.  I mean, how far is Arnold willing to take this retooling before he totally pisses off the fans and players?  I agreed with trading Burnes this offseason but think it ends there.  if we stink at the deadline, then trade whoever you want (Adames, Williams, etc).

I get that, but I think we don't start the season with Adames.

He gets traded, but I'm not convinced we move Williams unless the get is just too huge to pass up.  I mean, to trade arguably the best closer in baseball with two years of control left, we have to expect a massive payoff, or it won't get done.

I agree with OP, tear the band aid off and deal Adames before spring training. He is a very popular player in the clubhouse and I think it will be hard to trade him mid-season. We need young, controllable pitching and we now have his replacement in Ortiz. Free up his money and go sign a vet with that money like Montgomery.

How many teams are there that regularly resign their own players young players? The Braves worked some magic to get a bunch of their guys signed and that's about it. The Angels signed Trout long term and the Yankees did judge but almost all players hit free agency and wind up going elsewhere. All the boo-hooing about how it sucks to be a Brewer fan because we never hold on to our players totally ignores that nothing the Brewers are doing is out of line with the vast, vast majority of the rest of the league.

I agree. There's all sorts of teams that realize that they will lose guys in free agency. And in the case of the Yankees and Dodgers, they can often re-sign guys even after they've hit free agency.
