This.   Which is why something like River Ryan might be all that it takes.

I know it's just one guy's opinion - but I see that Keith Law put River Ryan at #33 on his Top 100 prospect list that just came out in the past week or so.  I think he's the only one to have Ryan in a Top 100 list, but it also shows that he's got some upside.  IF we could get Ryan as the headliner in an Adames trade, I think I'd jump all over it if I were Arnold.  Then, go use the $$ you save by not having Adames to make a Hoskins type offer to Matt Chapman.

Where does River Ryan compare with other pitchers with an aquatic-themed name? Steve Lake, Steve Trout, Anthony Bass and the great John Wetteland come to mind. And no, a submarining pitching motion doesn't count.

Haha to the post above.  Good props there!

But on a more serious note, how little would you take from the Dodgers for Adames?  I was thinking I’d maybe be willing to take Payton Martin, Justin Wroblewski, and a 30-40 lotto pitcher just because I am ready for the young infield to take shape (and don’t think that’s selling all that low for one year of Adames).   What do yall think of this type of deal?

I’d rather get a comp pick.

Of course.

This FO isn’t going to give-away Adames.

Jon Heyman says the Brewers are not shopping Adames or Williams right now. Also says both are free agents after the season so who knows. Way at the end of the article

Agreed . . . Shaking my head at Mr. Heyman . . . Per MLBTR, Williams only has 4.056 years of service.  Not sure how a guy gets 1 2/3 years of service time for a single season.

Having just one year left and a decent salary means Adames isn't going to net a huge return, but I'd like to adress this seemingly common idea among fans that teams don't value Adames, or the less common one that he might even not warrant a QO. Uhm, what? You'd think he had a disastrous season or something, but he put up 3 WAR in a year where he significantly underperformed his career numbers as well as stats like xwOBA. There's better to come. And even if not, the player he currently is is still valuable. Good thing the people actually in baseball look beyond just a 1 year batting average.

107 career wRC+, elite defender, 17-18 WAR with a year until free agency where he will be 29. Only a year ago, a 29 year old with a career 94 wRC+, elite defense, 16 WAR at the time of hitting free agency, got $177m in free agency. Yes that's a bit misleading as his bat now is clearly better than in his first couple years, but still Dansby put up 109 wRC+ over his three good offensive years. So the comparison is close enough. My point isn't that he'll get that same contract, he might very well get less, just that players with his profile get paid, and that he's a valuable player.

That being said, if they get a top 100 pitcher type I'd jump on it. But I'd also be happy seeing the year out and just getting the comp pick if the offers aren't great. Much more so than I was with Burnes.
