18-year old SS Filippo Di Turi leads the ACL in walks (11 in 44 PAs), has a .394 AVG and 1.091 OPS.

Just a few games into his season, we already have a hitting highlight reel:

AA Biloxi has dropped 4 games in a row, scoring a combined 3 runs in those contests. It’s time to unleash the offense behind RHP Brett Wichrowski (3.57 ERA with 26 Ks in 22.2 High-A/AA IP) in the first game of today’s doubleheader at Mississippi. CF Carlos D. Rodriguez has 18 hits in his last 28 ABs.

On the other side of the ledger is AAA Nashville, who’ve won 3 straight and can clinch a series win in Jacksonville behind RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez. RF Brewer Hicklen is right back in the lineup after a day off.

LHP Brian Fitzpatrick (4.05 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 in 20 IP) and High-A Wisconsin lead their home series against Beloit 2-1. 1B Tayden Hall has just 2 Ks in 28 High-A PAs, but his .182 BABIP is hurting his numbers: .167 AVG, .452 OPS.

Through 3 innings, Biloxi have put 5 baserunners aboard vs. just 2 for Mississippi.

Biloxi trails 1-0, as Mississippi’s 1 hit was a solo homer.

Low-A Carolina needs to get back to winning to fend off Fredericksburg for the first half divisional lead. 18-year old RHP Josh Knoth gets the start at Down East tonight. 3B Juan Baez and CF Yhoswar Garcia are 4th in the Carolina League in hits and stolen bases, respectively.

This might not be a popular comp, but my immediate first impression upon watching Yujanyer Herrera (as a Venezuelan thicc-boi wearing #38) is something akin to Carlos Zambrano.

I wonder where Osbriel Mogollon actually is. He pitched in Carolina last night according to the box score but we have no way to verify because no audio/video and the ACL box score says he's pitching for the ACL Brewers today which also doesn't have audio/video. Who is the real Osbriel Mogollon?

It was christofer carrasco last night. Both are on the roster as #28

Yeah and they’ve now updated yesterday’s Game 2 Carolina box score to reflect Carrasco instead of Mogollon. Interesting.

Biloxi was no-hit in the second game of today's doubleheader and it appears that Noah Campbell exited the game early due to injury.

Was Biloxi no hit earlier this year? I know it happened to one of the teams, but can't remember which one

Nashville was no-hit by Norfolk in early May, while Biloxi was one-hit recently in a game where 27 of 28 Shuckers were retired.

I feel like Biloxi is No-Hit every time I watch their offense. A painful experience.

Down East is such a perennial thorn in the Mudcats side. Losing @ Down East feels doubly worse considering what the Rangers have done to us die hards. Thankfully, we didn't lose any ground on the Nats. Both are tied atop the Division 11 games over. Granted, we have those Columbia make-ups in the chamber.

For as exciting as the pitching has been in the system this year, I feel like the hitting has been oppositely underwhelming. Injuries have certainly played a part, but we aren't seeing many breakthroughs with the bat so far this year. Will be very interesting to see where the farm system ranks come midseason re-rankings. Feel like I wouldn't be surprised if we fall to the bottom half of the teens with Chourio and Gasser potentially graduating.

No doubt Chourio and Gasser (& Ortiz) graduating will be a hit in the rankings, but I think Misio, Quero, Black, Wilken is still a pretty strong top 4.

Boeve (198 wRC+) is probably the closest thing to a breakout hitter but it feels like all of Di Turi (182 wRC+), Adams (142 wRC+), Bitonti (132 wRC+), Barrios (128 wRC+), Guilarte (120 wRC+), Yophery (119 wRC+), Pratt (118 wRC+), O’Rae (117 wRC+), Baez (110 wRC+) and Lara (96 wRC+) have at least held their own to varying degrees among guys that have gotten some recent attention.

Then there’s Clarke (159 wRC+), Carlos Rodriguez OF (148 wRC+), EMJ (145 wRC+), Hicklen (139 wRC+), Yhoswar (127 wRC+), Collins (122 wRC+), Eduarqui (122 wRC+) and Kay-Lan (121 wRC+) who have their various warts but have at least come out of the gates performing strong.

I’d say the only real “dud” so far this year is EBJ, but injuries have definitely been a factor there.

Misiorowski, Quero, Black, Wilken is a fine Top 4 prospects, but really nothing super impressive especially because they are stagnant mostly. Misiorowski hasn't shown any improvement of his command. Quero is out for the year so he will be passed by players breaking out, and Black has moved further down the defensive spectrum since the start of the season as a now full time 1B. Wilken had a bunch of prospect helium coming into the season, but really hasn't continued that growth partially due to injury.

There was lots of hype coming into the season for guys like Lara, Yophery, Pratt, Bitonti to really breakout and find their way onto or near the fringes of the Top 100 list. So far none of them are flashing Top 100 prospect breakthrough. The system for bats just feels very stagnant this year outside of Boeve breaking out although he has started to cool off in the month of May with his OPS down to .738 after the double header today.

Development isn't linear so there is still time for players to take steps this year, but the early returns outside of Boeve are lackluster.

Carlos Rodriguez (the Nashville pitcher) has had a terrific month of May.  He's 3-0 with a 2.65 ERA, 21 Ks vs. 4 BB and a .190 BAA.  If you count his last April start, he's won 4 starts in a row.

Putting himself in position for a big-league call-up when a starter is needed.
