Texas now nine wins back of the last wild card spot, and they have the pitching to deal.

I've said this before, but I think the pitcher who makes the most sense is Max Scherzer (if the Rangers can kick in some cash).

Making $43M this year with the Mets sending $21M to Texas, assuming Texas sends pro-rated cash from Mets to MKE it's about $8M for the rest of the season.  Big salary so it won't take much prospect capital to get him.  Last year of his contract so the Brewers aren't on the hook for a big salary next year.  Lots of playoff experience.  His salary can be made up for with a deep playoff run.

I don't think the Rangers are going to part with any pitchers under contract next year - they have too much talent and will likely try to run it back.  Heaney is an option as well, but at a lower salary he'll likely require more prospect capital back and doesn't have the playoff experience that Scherzer has.

That paydown by the Mets really changes the dynamic a lot and makes this downright feasible. Scherzer has a no trade clause, but I think if we learned anything last year...he will absolutely waive it for a chance to win. But the no trade clause somewhat allows him to approve his landing spot, he could force his way to the Dodgers if he wants...who certainly would want him. It's a bit tough to see the Brewers coming in first in a race for this guy, but would certainly like to at least try to get him.

I don't know if he is this person, but I imagine some players out there might be swayed by the CC Sabathia argument: Sure, you could go to the Dodgers and be a final piece that helps them get over the top - so what? They should win.

Or, you could go to the Brewers (or similar team), put them over the top, and be an absolute legend forever. Given that the Brewers and Dodgers aren't that far apart this year, maybe that holds sway with some players.

If we are talking similar prospect value to what we just gave up for Civale I like this move a lot, and while he's probably already done enough for the HOF I would agree leading the Brewers to the series would do a lot more for increasing that vote and perception than the Dodgers.

My guess is that several B prospects and an A would be needed to get Scherzer. Can’t see him going for less than a small haul with several teams likely interested.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of getting Scherzer for the remainder of the season!

To me, this feels like a no-brainer if the price is right...

Or one could make the argument with Scherzer (and his agent) that the Dodgers have won 100 games or more in five of the last six full seasons... and didn't win the World Series in any of them, only in the shortened 2020 season.

That, and marginal state income taxes in WI are half of what they are in CA.  He may not be excited by going from 0% marginal income tax in TX to 14.63% marginal income tax in CA.

I think it is wishful thinking that he wouldn't want to go to the Dodgers for any reason.

My guess is if he had the choice between us and LA, the Dodgers would be his choice.  That team is built to win the world series, and since winning seems to be important to him,, I think we'd take the back seat.

What about Nathaniel Lowe? Former Gold glover , silver slugger who could plug a hole at first base for a few years. Not having an outstanding season but better than what we have.

At this point I feel like there is a pretty good chance Rhys picks up next years option. I do like Nate Lowe a bunch and he would be a great add.

Scherzer would be sweet, Eovaldi and Lorenzen would be nice. Jon Gray would probably be my target in Texas, He has a plus slider and a 95 mph fastball that needs a bit of adjustment. I think he would be the type of starter our staff could level up and he has a year of control.

MLB network on tv today proposed Mitchell for Scherzer.  Pass!

Texas would pass on that as well, they're as stocked as MIL is at OF with Garcia, Langford, Carter, and Taveras.
