By the end of the next Atlanta series and dodgers this team will be caught.   I just can’t believe the front office doesn’t care about this year at all

i bet next year we are 6 back at this point instead of 5 ahead

Have you done the math on how bad the Brewers' record over the next two weeks would need to be and how good the Cards and/or Pirates would need to be? Care to throw out your envisioned records that will lead to this scenario? You seem awfully certain.

And yet it's still 2-2 if Elvis can retire one single hitter.

Sure it was a bad AB by him since he started it 2-0 and was forced to throw a fastball over the plate.  But it was a mediocre hit seeing eye single that happened to be in the perfect spot.  Couple feet left or right and its an easy out.

Combination of a bunch of things in a row at the wrong time.    That's baseball. We get a kinda lucky bases loaded situation all after 2 outs, fail.  They get the same, get a dribbler to squeak through the crack in the IF

I mean the my original critique was of the pen there and Elvis just straight up didn't get it done.  The error on Ortiz was borderline anyway so hard to use that as an excuse. He couldn't throw a strike, until he had to and even then Riley bailed him out on 2-0. Fell behind in the count which will cause bad things to happen.

Fact that Riley didn't make great contact is kind of a red herring in all of it. It'd be different if he made great pitches and just got beat but that isn't what happened.

Entering the game Peguero had stranded 12 of 19 inherited base runners, tied for the fourth highest percentage among MLB relievers.

Zero qualified relievers have stranded 100% of inherited runners this year.

The Brewers bullpen had a +9.18 Win Probability Added entering the game, 2nd in MLB behind only Cleveland (+11.01). Third place is STL all the way down at +4.87. That is a massive gap.

That was a dubious error call.

Even if a borderline error its still bad luck/breaks.  Guy gets mediocre at best contact but it goes to a lucky spot making it a tough play.    Just like the scoring one, mediocre contact just happens to go to the wrong spot.

We'll be sitting here early next week saying its still a solid 2 game lead. Is there any doubt this team is on the verge of a complete collapse.

Yeah. The real lucky play came on the weak dribbler through 6 & 5.

Yes, and tomorrow it could be 4, or back to 6.

Brewers don't play tomorrow so no, it couldn't be either of those.
