Bell just came back alive recently and is on an insane hot streak.

I don't believe he will continue what he is doing and will probably drop back down to a 100 wRC+.  He isn't a force that he once was.

Plus, he is replacing Walker who got hurt.  That is probably a downgrade for them.

Defensively definitely an absolute downgrade.  Offensively Bell can be good but he is so streaky.

Fangraphs has Montas' cutter at -6.9 runs above average, by far his worst pitch.

Maybe not call cutters?

I didn’t realize how hot the D-backs have been until I was looking at offensive numbers for June and July.

They went 31–16 in those two months while averaging 5.75 runs per game.

Because an All-Star and former top-10 prospect in all of baseball hit a home run?

Montas has some arm talent, I’ll give him a few starts with our coaching staff before judging the trade.  If they can get him right he is a playoff starter that gives you a chance.

He's been knocked around in his first 4 innings against one of the weaker lineups in the NL.

So far, exactly as expected. Not every move the Brewers make needs to be rationalized.

It’s amazing how the nationals have even lost a game this year.    Let alone 60

This isn't specifically about you at all, and there's definitely some success stories that came from the Brewers pitching lab, but I always find it a little insulting to other pitching coaches that we assume our guys can just pick up a guy like Montas and "fix" him in a few starts. 

I mean the guy in charge of fixing him this entire season was Derek Johnson, and we thought he walked on water when he had a Brewer uniform on.

For being knocked around it looks like Montas should be able to get through 6 innings.
