It's always darkest before the dawn. I truly hope Middendorf finds his joy again and, should he stay in baseball, that wizardry from back in 2022 when he was signed out of the Indy circuit and made his way from the ACL Brewers up to Biloxi and then pitched well in the AFL even getting the final out in the Championship game. He fell off considerably the last season plus. I hope he finds what he is looking for wherever he may land. An incredible story regardless of the end result with the Brewers.

Hasn't been announced yet so must be very recent. Looks like he last started in the KBO on 8/6 so some time in the last two weeks.

LHP Tucker Davidson‘s signing has been made official and from a roster standpoint he has been assigned to Wisconsin. To be determined if he will see action with the TimberRattlers.

I should be able to detail these departures tonight with a proper acknowledgment of players’ efforts as the Brewers post the releases of these Dominican League players:

DSL Blue:

RHP Luis Velasquez

INF Joan Gutierrez

DSL Gold:

OF Pedro Tovar

RHP Saul Sanchez

Thanks @wiguy94 for the post, I will keep this one up with the links - takes time to compose on an iPhone at the local town beach!Saul Sanchez

With Davidson listed as Nashville’s starter Friday night, clearly the southpaw is not with Wisconsin in any manner, paper or otherwise.

Wishing each of these players well in all future endeavors on and off the field -

RHP Luis Velasquez - It is not often we see players released by the Brewers after just one professional season. This was Velasquez' age-17 season, as his 18th birthday is not until October. The Venezuelan native issued 42 free passes in 39.1 innings (37 BB, 5 HBP, plus 10 wild pitches). That all led to a 1.73 WHIP in his 11 appearances (four starts). Velasquez' best performance was in his second game and first start, a 5-inning, 1-run effort on June 14th. As his game log will show, walks were part of his other OK efforts, including this July 5th game in which the only six baserunners allowed were via the base on balls over 3.2 innings. We have certainly seen rougher professional debut seasons continued with a second-chance year, but that won't be the case here.

INF Joan Gutierrez - On the flip side of the experience totem pole is Gutierrez, another native of Venezuela who just wrapped up his third season on the island. Gutierrez will be 20 years old in October. He signed for $325,000 as part of the January 2023 international class. never on an injured list, Gutierrez just completed his most productive season, posting a .226/.431/.264 line (.695 OPS). The lack of any career SLG - 17 XBH's in 343 AB's, zero HR's, will not have him advancing stateside. There were 23 outfield appearances during his tenure, but as his fielding page shows, he was primarily utilized on the dirt.

DSL Gold:

OF Pedro Tovar - Another Venezuelan product from the 2023 class, the left-handed swinging Tovar signed for $235,000. Primarily but not exclusively a corner outfielder during his own three-year injury-list-free Dominican League stay, Tovar's lack of consistent playing time despite rather solid numbers often puzzled the Link Report staff. A 27.2% K rate is not ideal, but Tovar, who turned 19 this past June, completes his Brewers run with a .259/.361/.360 mark (.721 OPS). In 2025, he only played in 20 games with just 42 official at-bats, often playing just once a week.

RHP Saul Sanchez - Sanchez signed in January of 2023 as well, but out of Nicaragua. He just turned 19 years old on August 8th. All 46 pro appearances were in relief. As his linked player page reveals, Sanchez appeared to be a candidate to move stateside after his 2024 season (1.74 ERA, 1.06 WHIP). This past summer's efforts were skewed by a blowup five-run outing on July 25th, as Sanchez' game log shows.

- RHP Lenin Mendez released by DSL Brewers Blue

Mendez is another member of the January 2023 international class who won't graduate stateside after three seasons in the DSL. All 46 of the 6'3" pitcher's appearances (covering 71.2 innings) were out of the bullpen. Other than limiting home runs (3), the various peripherals you'll see at that player page link are lacking. Mendez, a Dominican native, turns 21 years old in September.
