More Reasons to Hate The Cubs in 2025. Bregman has narrowed it down to 3 including the Baby Bears.

Posted

If you could not see how much the Cubs chose to invest in players this offseason you are not looking and the Central is not going to be a cakewalk in 2025.    I believe the Brewers are still the best team in the Central with the Cubs building things to challenge us soon enough.     If Bregman chooses the Cubs and it sounds a lot like a very real possibility at this point it may tip the scales for me to despise the Cubs at a very new and very real way I have never experienced before.           The Cubs cannot win with Craig C at the controls .    We must keep them as laughable as their team name and if the sign Bregman that makes things a bit harder to pull off.      He is also talking to the Red Sox and Tigers so we can hope he does not darken the doors  here.     Bregman would hold up the Cubs big prospect so that could be a bonus and maybe even put that kid on the market if they sign themselves a  big money free agent like Bregman.

The enemy is stocking up for a better shot at the champs.   The Brewers are not behind the Cubs even with a Bregman signing. Though it sure will make things more interesting if they do make this signing down there.

Them trying to get better is a reason to hate them? Wish our team actually made moves that have a good chance of making us better, rather than just claiming they are, and relying on luck. Professional sports isn't a legitimate reason for hate, at all.

Hmmm. Claiming?

2024 Final Standings.

Brewers 93 / 69

Cubs 83 / 79

That was because the rest of our division was horrible. That's likely not the case now, and I'd bet winning the NL Central will be much more difficult because the other teams are making moves to get better, and we're not. We still haven't come close to replacing the offensive #'s Adames put up. We still get bounced from the playoffs immediately. How quickly people conveniently forget that.

How quickly some people conveniently forget that we literally would’ve advanced in the postseason had our all star closer been capable of pitching a scoreless or even one run inning.

Would've, could've, should've. The main reason we've been winning the division lately, is because the rest of the teams have been horrible. Williams is only human. Win as a team, lose as a team.

I'm not too bothered on this. The Cubs would lose picks 2 & 5 in the 2025 draft and potentially he'd want an opt out after a year/maybe two. He's a great piece don't get me wrong, but he's not a Kyle Tucker level addition and has seen declining results in recent seasons and profiles not quite so well away from Houston

EDIT: plus that year could cost $25m-$30m. I think it'd maybe hurt long term more than it helps them tbh

Thanks for bringing up another great player the Cubs went out and got to try and get better now. We rely on hope around these parts. Personally, I think MA and the ownership group should sell the team.

I've done some pieces on it recently, but it's less about ownership and more about local TV structures and general market that allow the Cubs to have larger financial power than the Brewers. It's unfortunate, but actually I'd say that, taking into account the size of revenue streams involved, I'd much rather have Attanasio than the Ricketts

The rest of the division was mediocre - all winning between 76 and 83 games.

It wasn’t like the Brewers were beating up on actual horrible teams like CHW (41 W), COL (61 W), MIA (62 W), LAA (63 W), OAK (69 W) or WAS (71 W) to pad their win total.

Due to not having any truly horrible teams (and the Brewers going 31 W - 15 L against the AL) the NL Central ended up with the 3rd most wins in 2024…

NLW (421 W)
ALE (420 W)

NLC (412 W)
NLE (406 W)

ALC (387 W)
ALW (383 W)

Ding ding. Given their massive revenue advantage, there is little doubt the Ricketts are pocketing more cash annually than Attanassio.

Ricketts own 95% of the team plus 25% of the network and a bunch of real estate adjacent to Wrigley. How much revenue is that compared to Mark A owning 40% of the Brewers?

I’m not sure there is anyway for us internet posters to know the definitive dollar amount, but I’d imagine it eclipses the $80M or so that separates the teams respective payrolls pretty easily.

Am I the only thinking the Cubs signing Bregman isn't that big of a deal?! He has to play 50% of his games in Chicago, which can giveth and taketh away. Maybe we can wait to see if this happens before we start crying about what the Brewers do and don't do.

Bingo! There were many around here lamenting the Brewers' chances of competing last year in a "much improved" NL Central as well. Of course, we all know how that turned out. The Brewers took the division in a convincing fashion.

What do you consider hypocritical about it? Lol. There's many more serious issues going on the world to hate people over, other than professional sports. Whether our favorite teams win or lose, doesn't effect our lives at all. Hating someone or something over professional sports, just exposes how immature our society has become.

I was one of those people, who didn't write off the Crew just because Counsell left, while most others here kept ranting and calling for his head on a stick, simply because he went to Chicago. So obviously, he was supposed to do what everyone else thought he should do, instead of doing what HE wanted to do. Must be a bunch of selfish control freaks here.

You predicted an 82-win season last year

I did? Lol proof please. Even if I did(which I doubt) I was one person who actually thought we could be better without Counsell, when most others here let their emotions of hate do their typing for them. I try not to set myself for disappointment, by letting my emotions overestimate how good we really are. We're only 1-2 key injuries/poor performances away from being a possible 90+ win team, to a 65-70 win team.

The Search function on the site is actually quite easy to use.

Be careful what you wish for. You might dream of some version of Cohen buying the club but you are far more likely to end up becoming the Pirates.

Like I said, I almost always predict around .500, so I don't set myself up for disappointment, if they crap the bed. Use that search to also see where I said we could be better without Counsell, while most here were demanding his head on a stick. Lol doubt you'll want to see that proof though.

What I saw was you using Counsell's exit as yet another opportunity to "hate" on the team's front office and ownership ... which kinda brings this conversation full circle.

lol……another guy who wants the owner who resided over the best period in Brewers history to sell the team……

Because we all know that multi billionaire owners who are willing to deficit finance the brewers payroll and commit to keeping them in Milwaukee are just beating down the door to buy the team.

ps We had another poster a couple of years ago who banged this drum ……he disappeared when the brewers kept winning……….wonder where he went? 🤔
