Abdiel Mendoza comes in a pitches a 4 up, 3 down (1 hit) inning with 2 K.

On to the bottom of 8 clinging to a 3-2 lead.

You know what would sound good about now?  An insurance run (or runs) by the Shuckers.  I mean that would sound really good about now.

OK. Matthew Wood is up with Biloxi and is catching, and Darrien Miller covers 1st base tonight.

But Wood and Miller are nearly twins, being born about a week apart (3/2/01 vs 3/10/01), both 5'10" 190ish and both left handed hitter and right handed throwers.

Slow inning, runner on 2nd and only 1 out.

Spain singles to left and Warren scores. It's 4-2 game now. 2 down and Vargas up. Still would be OK with more insurance runs....

OK. I'll have to be content with just the 1 insurance run as Restituyo flies out to right and strands Spain and Vargas.

On to the 9th, and likely Yeager or maybe Childers to try to close it out?

Posted

It is in fact Yeager (who if he can get the 3 outs here has to feel like he's a step away from AAA right?)

Let's see if we can preserve this 2 run lead.

Posted

OK first pitch was a clear strike, called ball 1. And Yeager is not in as much control. He winds up walking the first batter. Never a successful recipe. C'mon Yeager let's go Shuckers!!

Posted

Stolen base (on what should have been strike 2, but was called a ball) and then the next pitch is a base hit to right. And it's a 4-3 game. C'mon Yeager, let's get some outs here.

Posted

Hey hey hey, Matthew Woods in his first AA, gets the runner at second. Very clutch caught stealing.

Now 2 outs and no one on.

Let's get this guy Yeager, c'mon only one guy to get out now.

What a finish. A double by Hearn.

Then - Grounder up the middle and Vargas bobbles it, but the runner at 2nd (Hearn) tries to score for some odd reason, and is caught easily as the throw goes to Wood and he chases him up the 3rd base line and tags him out for out #3.

End of game. 4-3 win.  Welcome to AA Mr. Matthew Wood!

Yeager has been a bit shaky his last two outings. He definitely goes through spells like this. I am thankful, on the whole, however, he has yet to give up a long ball in 2025. 🫣 Saved by a ridiculous base running error there. We'll take it! Big dub.

OK. I guess the game is called in Wisconsin and it is a final, so T-Rats win. Phew. a very shaky 2-1 night for the affiliates.

See you all tomorrow

So far he’s got 11 HR, 41 BB/HBP and 47 K in 176 PAs for a whopping 56.25 3TO%.

For comparison Rob Deer was at a 49.78% for his career, Adam Dunn came in at 50.96%, Schwarber is sitting on 49.44%. Even the mighty Branyan could only muster a 51.35%.

He has risen!

What's hilarious about this is I was legitimately just contemplating this last night when watching the Shuckers - yes, even with their ongoing audio/video issues Javik deserves a listen. Good grief, we Brewers junkies are cut from a different kind of tattered cloth.

I says to myself:

"11 HR but only 22 RBI? That reads like a stat line for One of my guys in Brewers Franchise mode 'MLB The Show '22'!"

@sveumrules: heck of an assist for muh early coffee! Many thanks for curing what ailed us all.

Just hitting solo dingers is like 3TO Prime.

What is Wilken's defense like?

I wouldn't go as far to say it's good but it's said it's somewhere between average and above-average. What he lacks in range and fluidity he makes up for by having a very strong arm and being pretty sure handed.

Cool. Haven't seen any here but was hoping to avoid the dreaded, "he'll need to move off this position eventually" type talk.

Yeah I don't think that will happen and I don't think the Brewers view him as that considering he's only played 3B in his career compared to guys like Black, Boeve, Adams who have played a lot of 1B in addition to the 3B.

Very much agreed w @wiguy94. Has a cannon. Limited range but, generally, very good hands; can make accurate throws from any angle - including the dreaded cross body charging throws; and rarely ever hurts you there. Competent is the word I would use. You know what you are getting and it plays.
