Controversial opinion but maybe they just shouldn’t do much of anything this trade deadline?

C,2B: no need at all
OF: Frelick and Chourio are locked and I don’t see Collin’s losing his job right now. We could add depth but not sure it’s even needed with Perkins and Bauers.
1B,DH: Yelich and Hoskins are playing every day and Bauers and Vaughn are fine depth. I will be confused if they trade Bauers to replace him with Vaughn.
SP: if anything they are trading away here but I think after Civale went they might be better off just hoarding the rest of the arms for depth. I don’t think there is a high value trade available here anyway. The question will come up if they should try trading for an ace pitcher, not sure if that is going to be worth the cost. That is a plausible impact trade but I don’t think they will/should outbid a team like the Cubs for example.
RP: we really don’t need it, our top 3 relievers are very likely to be the same after the deadline. They could upgrade the back end and replace Koenig or Rob Z for example.

Now it gets a little more complicated as we have been discussing 3B FAs for the past 6 months and we had the worst SS in baseball for about 2 months to start the year.

If the right guy was available here, I would be all for it. But a few things have changed:
-Ortiz had a 114 wRC+ in June
-Durbin had a 131 wRC+ in June
-Trading for a guy like Ramon or Luis Urias could definitely put up maybe a 90 wRC+ here and be a worse option than Durbin
-Taking at bats away from Ortiz and Durbin will probably lower their productivity for this year

So can they add a guy at SS/3B? Sure but I think he would probably take the Mona role and not play very much. I am assuming they won’t find a plus plus player here on a short contract.

So overall my trade deadline ask is just a backup IF and maybe a low cost reliever if Koenig continues to struggle.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Yeah, I think you nailed it. Suarez is the guy I'd be looking at, but...I don't want to give up a big piece for him and other teams may be willing to. SPing, nope. An upgrade would cost a lot, and I really like our starters.

I like this team a ton. Durbin getting hot was huge, but this is kinda what I'd envisioned when the season started. I thought it'd be Myers and Woodruff vs Patrick and Priester, but those two can still come back.

Hypothetically, the D-Backs ask for Hardin+Quintana for Suarez. A reasonable ask. I don't want to give Hardin up as I think the Brewers can turn him into a really good, if not TOR type arm and I don't want to trade away an 18-year-old we thought so highly of.

If there's a pitcher who's struggling and they think could do better out of the pen, or whatever else, fine, but I like this team and think it's chances are decent in a short series.

Depending on how Hoskins plays over the next month, I'd look into upgrading 1B. He had that really nice hot streak but he's been slumping for over a month now. If it continues then I'm looking at O'Hearn or Naylor as potential 1B adds and shifting Hoskins into Bauers slot. Then trade Bauers for a bag of balls or something.

I’m adding a rental like O’hearn or Naylor to play 1B vs RHP. We have the minor-league depth so let’s use it to upgrade the lineup in a way that doesn’t hurt the team’s speed and baserunning advantage.

Hoskins vs LHP only.

If years past are informative, the Brewers would look to add to the bullpen (Mears, Chafin, Matt Bush, Daniel Norris, etc), then low cost veteran position players (Escobar, Canha, Donaldson, Santana etc.).

I don’t think they’d sit out completely but another underwhelming year.

I know you are speaking mainly on the 40 man and major league roster... and underwhelming might be a good word for it but I think there will be action out of necessity on the backend of the 40 man..

Looking at the backlog of pitchers starting at the big league level that trickles to Nashville and then to Biloxi ... I'm not sure it is smart to stop the development of your whole system like we will possibly see after the break.

Guys in AA who are ready to move up to AAA like Wichrowski, Crow, possibly Kuehner, possibly Hardin already in a month?!?, etc ... Shouldn't be held back.

So I look at a guy like Tobias Myers and although I really like him... he might be a guy we can easily replace because we just need one of the aforementioned guys to continue developing appropriately and we haven't lost anything.

So we are in a great position to exchange our crazy surplus of arms to add to a place where we might be lacking... Whether that is positional depth in the minors or whether Tobias is the piece used to bring back a major league depth infield piece, etc

Tobias being the example used here but whether it is him or Quintana or whomever... Unless we get another injury or two in the next few weeks I do think a domino has to move there.
