Knew it wouldn't be long for one of the human ump defenders to defend that terrible call. It was a clear strike.

Cry me a river. I’m as critical as anyone of the umps every night, if you’ve read any gamethread, and I’m constantly calling for robots.

So no, you’re wrong. I’ve been calling for robots for longer than yourself. But I’m not so much of a homer that I’m going to get all bent out of shape about an extremely close pitch that probably gets called close to 50/50 in reality.

Getting guys on base and Not scoring is like .... raising a Musky and Not catching it.

Some say it still counts, but I don't see it.

He had two really good pitches to hit.

He’s a really bad hitter. So unfortunately, checks out.

It was a super borderline 0-2 pitch. Wasn’t egregiously bad. He actually got 2 calls his way later, but the 0-2 pitch to Suzuki could have gone either way.

Blaming the score on that isn’t it.

It's the first inning in a pivotal division game and Miz is the home pitcher.  The Cubs batter needs to protect himself on 2 strikes. Not Miz throw a dot strike three when 2 runners are on and a "borderline" strike 3 is called ball against him.  3 runs vs 0, 19 more pitches? That 1000% has the largest impact to this game.

Ortiz, Contreras, and Yelich are pretty much automatic outs right now.

As Yeli goes so do does the Crew.  Yeli is scuffling right now.  :-(

In fairness, he did hit one of them.

It is a shame he isn't as good a hitter as he is a fielder.

Obviously I would have agreed with it being a strike. And I do want to see robots, or at least the challenge system from the AS game.

All I’m saying is, with the system we currently have, on an 0-2 count, in reality, that pitch in that exact location gets called a strike maybe 50% of the time.

This isn’t just something I’m pulling out of my rear end. A 2018 study from Baseball Prospectus and Statcast shows that umpires are 15% more likely to call a strike on a borderline 3-0 pitch, and 12% less likely to call one on a borderline 0-2 pitch.

Unfortunately, it ended up being very big that it did not go our way, but it was not egregiously in the strike zone like some pitches we saw against Seattle and Miami.

I mean, serious question. Right now, the Brewers have around a 25% chance of getting the postseason bye per FG. Trading significant assets for Suarez or Neto or something maybe bumps that up to what? 30? 40?

Obviously, that also improves your roster for the opening three-game series and probably bumps your overall postseason odds up from 93 to 96 or 98. But at the cost of a lot of future value.

I'm not saying it's not a good thing to do. I think it's a hard call. But I think the likeliest outcome of this season is a WC series, even if it's as a division winner.

Under those circumstances, I'm interested in deals like the Jansen one. I'm not really sure I want to give up the capital it's going to take to get Suarez.

The biggest series of the season is a 5 game series next month at Wrigley.

We need to sweep right here and now !!

If we can take these series instead of sweeping I'll be happy.
