Why? What possible purpose does Jake Bauers serve on a playoff roster?

The man isn’t versatile. He hasn’t played at above a replacement level in any season since the 2018 season. The Brewers had their best stretch of the season when he was out for an extended stretch, so you can’t say his left handedness is important to the roster.

There aren’t 26 better options for a playoff roster on our 40? What am I missing?

He doesn't really need to be all that versatile on a playoff roster. Unless we're worried about having a 3rd catcher (which I doubt) they'll be covered defensively. And if he's on the roster he'll be their best defensive 1B & it won't be close. I'm not saying that gets him on the field, but with a lead late in a game it just might.

They'll want a LHH on the bench, and he's a better option than Seigler. The only other option I see would be Black, who isn't exactly tearing it up in AAA. It's not so much a glowing endorsement of him, you just go with what you have to choose from.

Carlos Santana might be here instead, but Chicago claimed him before he got to us.

Definitely don't need three guys you have to run for for in a pinch. Pick two

Bauers doesn't need to be run for. He's not a burner but not slow, & is a pretty good baserunner. The other two? Good point.

They're GOING to have a LHH on the bench. Would you rather have Seigler, or Black?

That win also secures the season series against Philadelphia and the tiebreaker with them.

So is our 5.5 game lead over the 80-59 Phillies, whom we have the tiebreaker against, or the 6 game lead over the 80-60 Cubs, whom we lack the tiebreaker against, the bigger lead?

And yet after a big win against the Phillies this is what we post about?

You new here??😛.

It's normal to speculate about this stuff, actually. But when debating it, you gotta look at the 40-man, look at where you are in the pecking order regarding waiver pickups..........the options are a little more complicated than saying 😫ANYBODY BUT😫.............!!!!!

Like you, I'm not president of Bauers' fan club or anything. And if Black was showing more consistency I think he'd get some consideration. And maybe he still might. He'd certainly be a decent PR option.

It is what it is.

Please Please Please send Seigler to AAA.   He made four outs in 3 ABs yesterday, while making an unofficial error in the field.

I'd be OK with a DFA as well, but if he can improve in AAA, so be it, he might be a backup at somepoint down the line.  I know he didn't cost us a win yesterday, but in other games he has.

Bring up somebody that actually helps this team.  Send down Seigler and Bauers, bring up Hoskins and Black please.

Hats off to Aaron Ashby for getting us out of another jam last night and great job bullpen!

That’s an amusing brain teaser but I have an opinion.

The Brewers magic number to ensure finishing ahead of each of the teams is 17 so, from that standpoint, the leads are equal. But, because the Phillies have one more game left to play, than the Cubs, there is one more game in which the Brewers can pick up one of those 17, so the lead over the Phillies is very slightly more comfortable.

As a rule of thumb, now that the Brewers have clinched the tiebreaker over the Phillies, a lead of X games over the Phillies is equivalent to a lead of X+1 games over the Cubs

I know there is some sentiment that strength of schedule is largely irrelevant, but the Phillies have a tougher remaining schedule with upcoming series against the Mets, Royals, and Dodgers, all teams fighting for playoff positions.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

If the Brewers keep Bauers in the roster I have little doubt they will do it because they think he is a better option than some others……..the amount of time spent analyzing the end of bench guys is kind of silly.

Problem is, when Murphy is calling the shots, and for whatever reason, starting Bauers tempts him, it isn't that silly to want to remove temptation.

Bauers has no relevance to this team, yet there he is.  As long as he is on the roster, Murphy will think about, and at times, start him. My fear is that Murphy come playoff time, will want to use him based on some ridiculous gut feeling (kind of like RRR starting Kotsay in center freaking field).  We know it will happen, we just know it.

I don't know what baffles me more, Murphy continuing to start Seigler over Durbin, or people here defending it.

Seigler should not be taking at bats from Durbin.  His bat stinks, and his defense isn't in the same universe as Durbin.

Seigler shouldn't be taking at bats from Durbin, and he shouldn't be playing defense instead of Durbin.

Soooo, Koenig is going to close?! I don't think he should even be on the playoff roster.

Which 13 pitchers do you have slotted above Koenig?

I'm a little surprised we didn't let Ashby go another inning again this time, but they must not like him against righties?

his workload has been massive lately. he's lucky to have even pitched in this game at all, much less go another inning.

This Bauers/Siegler thing just has to end.

Siegler should be taking no at bats away from Durbin, ever.

You think Durbin is a 162 game-a-year player?

Nope, never said that.

All these recent platoon starts with Seigler are asinine.

No, I don't think Durbin should start all 162, but he shouldn't be in a platoon with a far worse player either.

The first 11 would be Peralta, Priester, Quintana, Uribe, Misiorowski, Woodruff, Ashby, Megill (assume he will be healthy by then), Mears (although now on the IL - ugh), Myers, Zastrynzny.

Last 2 would come from this pool based on health / availability at the time.

Patrick / Anderson / Zastrysny / Gasser / Koenig

Would prefer Gasser and Zastysny over Koenig if they are available when playoffs start (Gasser is playoff eligible, right?).

I'm just not a fan of Koenig in close games or coming in with men on base. Although, I'll admit my mind is remembering more HBs and WPs than what his stats show.  Just seems like every HB I have seen this year from him is when he has 2 strikes on the batter, men on base, and its a close game.
