Why would they go all out splashing champagne? Do you think they win division and then do it again? Doesn't make sense.  Brewers are waiting for Division clinch. Cubs feel like this is it till the playoffs.

I think they feel like "might as well celebrate once."

I imagine they are going to go all out against the Reds. If the magic number is down to one or two by end of day Sunday, they probably prioritize rest and youth ABs (which doesn't always mean a downgrade in performance).

I mean, at 4-5 back, the Cubs are not going to press their pitchers too hard. At 3? Differetstory.

They basically packed this one in offensively

Thought the same thing last night and then they scored a bunch of runs late so we'll see.

Nolan Ryan had extremely high pitch counts, exemplified by his 235 pitches in a 13-inning game on June 14, 1974. In his later career, in 1989 at age 42, he averaged 127 pitches per game.

Back when Ryan Braun was around, any time my dad would watch a game, he'd text me after each Braun strikeout and say something to the effect of, "When was the last time Braunie did something?"

I would inevitably take the bait and try to patiently explain that he was still the best hitter on the team for X, Y, and Z reasons, and had in fact had several big hits of recent vintage. To which he would always reply, "...hasn't done anything lately," which I eventually learned was code for: "I haven't watched him hit a homer in weeks."

I confess I had a moment like this as Contreras came to hit just now. I thought, he hasn't homered in forever, and indeed, it's been all month. But he has otherwise had many multi-hit games and is contributing in multiple ways, just like that double. But man, it is starting to feel like he hasn't homered in forever...

Playoff for the first time since 2020. I seriously doubt they believe the Brewers are going to be division champs. It just doesn’t ever work that way with professional athletes.

Pitching is a lot different these days. Guys throw harder and put more spin the ball and have Tommy John surgeries.

Nolan Ryan had a great fastball. His curveball was essentially a fastball pitch with his hand turned in a handshake position. I don't know if we'll see his likes again.

One is better than none.

Not against a good team during the playoffs.

Shouldn't we be tuning up against these guys ??

Do you understand how weird it is for a Cubs fan to come on this board and pretend to be a Brewers fan?
