I don’t really get it though… his kid is … fine, right ? He has an infant at home. He didn’t have a bereavement absence.

I've never had kids so I'm definitely not the best to speak to it. But since it's his first it could just be messing up his entire routine, sleep, eating, etc. Enough to throw you off. Baseball also probably slid down his priority list.
