Gotta go Priester and Freddy at home for games 1-2....game 3 I'd be open with Quintana, game 4 would be Patrick/BP, and game 5 is a TBD depending on where the series sits.

the Dodgers can start 4 apparent aces for games 1-4....however that approach could gas their bullpen in the middle of this series if the Brewers can keep their starters from working into the 7th every game.

Everyone, including most brewer fans, assume this series goes to the Dodgers in 5 games or less - i think its going 6 or 7 and its a coinflip on who wins it.

I’m in favor of carrying 13 pitchers with less rest days available.

I would keep Collins over Lockridge. He’s a switch hitter, a little more versatile in an emergency, and his struggles are a little overstated. There were parts of the season that there wasn’t anyone you wanted up more in the clutch.

Drop Lockridge and Gasser, add Myers, Hall, and Henderson if available.

If you only drop Lockridge and Gasser you can’t add all of the above only 2.

I’d go with Hall and Myers but if Henderson is good to go I’m good with him over Myers or Anderson.

Neither Collins nor Lockridge will get many at-bats regardless, may as well keep the one that can be an asset as a defensive replacement and pinch runner.

You never know how it’s going to play out…..a long extra inning game or injury can happen………I don’t see them dropping Collin’s for Lockridge……but I’ve been wrong before.

I’d guess that Hall and Myers make the NLCS roster. Gasser is almost certainly out. For the other spot, it would be either Anderson, Lockridge, or Collins out. I guess a lot depends on how the team feels about Chourio’s availability in CF. If he is back to being available in CF, you can replace Lockridge.

With only one solid SP (in the playoffs) and two guaranteed BP games, I don't see how you can't go with 13 pitchers. Lockridge is a luxury.

The one skill (other than defense and speed) Lockridge brings is an unreal ability to have long ABs. That could be an asset, but only if you're willing to start him, because taking pitches matters way more in the 1st-5th innings. I'm just not sure that adds up to much.

OTOH, Collins saw VERY limited use in the NLDS, even with Chourio's leg. Maybe they are concerned enough about his defense to go with Lockridge. Who knows?

Such marginal impacts bottom of the roster. I THINK I'd be inclined to go with 13 pitchers. Subtract Gasser and an OF (because Bauers and Mona can play out there too--I'd probably keep Collins over Lockridge because he can switch hit) and add Myers/Henderson and Hall (depending on health). Not going to be too upset regardless.

I’d be fine with an opener tomorrow but it should be a one inning thing and then Priester.

Agree completely. I don't think the org is trying to HIDE Priester, exactly, but...the guy was really great for us all year. It's fine to give him an opener. And it was fine to pull him in Wrigley. He had a rough go in his first playoff experience in that atmosphere.

If that's going to wreck your faith in the guy, though, to the point that you're not going to give him some bulk work in the first two games or three games of this series (and I'm not saying that's what's happening, but something about the team's wavering feels weird), that just means you really don't have enough pitching. If we're going to win a 7-game series on this schedule, Priester has to throw probably at least 8-10 innings, and he has to throw them well. Give him the ball at home. Let Quintana start on the road. Lots of playoff teams have rolled a worse 1, 2, 3 than Priester, Peralta, and Quintana/Myers (or whoever) in an LCS.

As I type this, I'm also realizing how impressive/unlikely/strange it was to win a 5-game LDS with our second-best starting pitcher throwing 2/3 of an inning. Mis basically became ace-adjacent to make up for it.

Agreed - Priester was a starter the Brewers relied on to give them 5-7 IP every time he took the ball.  I think the layoff from his last meaningful regular season start and 1st postseason one impacted him and not viewing him as a key playoff rotation piece in this series sets the pen up to be torched during that 3 game stretch in LA.  Maybe open woth Koenig if you want, but id prefer priester tonight, Freddy game 2, Quintana game 3, and a long pen game 4.  As others have mentioned, attempting to cycle the bullpen like crazy through a 7 game series is just asking for guys to get exposed/figured out for at bats when it matters most, especially if you arent giving your starters the opportunity to get you at least half the outs of the game.

I would go with Priester in Game 1, Freddy in Game 2 and (if game 1 goes well), Quintana in Game 3 and then another lefty, either Ashby or Koenig, in Game 4 and then move to Chad Patrick.

If Miz is not used tonight, I will be surprised.  If he doesn't it will be because we are getting shelled.  Otherwise, I expect Miz to follow Peralta at some point.  This would allow him to pitch a game in LA (3-5) and Milwaukee (6-7).  I also expect Ashby to start again for Game 3 and maybe even throw 2 or 3 innings.  I didn't expect him to throw just one in Game 1.

This 100%. I'm surprised by all the people wanting Quintana for game 3, indicating Miz can't pitch on the road or something. Miz is our best available pitcher that can go more than 3 innings, it has to be him today. If we roll out quintana and the brewers lose, there's that much more pressure on an elimination game is that's the concern. We can't just not have Miz pitch because it's a road game. I personally have no concerns whatsoever about him pitching today and/or on the road.
