Dodgers (Snell) vs. Brewers (Ashby): NLCS Game One Thread - 10/13/2025 @ 7:08PM

The way Snell threw tonight, that was my worst fear going in. Vs Philly in his last start it was like he wasn't actually physically pitching, but playing a video game where you can place every pitch exactly where you want it to land. Every time. Same thing tonite. All you can really do is be more woodpecker-ish, foul off pitches, don't ever chase, extend 3-2 counts so you tax him as much as you can. I would guess he had maybe half a dozen 3-2 counts, and we cashed in on none. Can't exaggerate how good he was.

Looking at his approach & where on the bat he made contact, Chourio came damn close to filling the gap in his last AB. Arghhhh.

Real kudos to Priester. And it looks like Megill might be a weapon from here on out.

I don't know if I've ever seen a more headsup play from a catcher, than what Contreras did in the bases-loaded situation. Magnificent. Also, that play was a 3B coaches' nightmare.

The bright side is the characteristics of what made us a 97-win team, returned in the bottom of the 9th (other than the Turang chase). Hopefully it carries over.

I'm pretty worried that Uribe might have hit a wall after his super heavy usage during the regular season. His velo was way down today. Sinker was down 2mph and slider was down almost 3mph. If that's going to be the norm going forward then I don't know if you can look at him as a trustworthy arm.

After pitching 2 innings on Saturday, something he has never done before, it was silly to use him tonight to begin with.

Look where it got us, he gives up a run with a walk, and now he is probably not useable tomorrow night.  I know people hate Murphy getting second guessed, but it was a dumb move at the time.

Sorry. It was the “negative in 3/4 of your posts” that did it for me. I’ve had a few and am disappointed. You have the right perspective. Here’s to hopefully winning Game 2.

No worries.  Go Brewers!

In a way I agree...but Snell wasnt your typical lefty tonight - that change up was used at will against Contreras, chourio, and vaughn.  He didnt have to give in and offer up hittable pitches to those righties because his change was so good - both in the zone and out of it.  Nobody had a shot against him

Dodgers runs were scored off a moonshot HR by a great hitter with a season's worth of postseason at bats and walking in a guy during an inning full of walks.  Betts took ball 4 and Turang couldn't get to that spot

I agree that Snell was close to untouchable but everyone asking guys who are at best average against average left handed pitchers to hit Snell tonight when the guys who destroy left handers couldn't touch him is just wild to me.

Oh look, Murphy has his kids at the presser, just sitting there, for absolutely no purpose.

Was at game. What a miserable experience. Not sure it was mentioned in thread but while Snell dominated, I feel like something could've been done. Felt like he only threw 10-15% fastballs. He was going to changeup and curve a good 60% of the time. Slider another 20%. Brewers were taking off speed strikes and violently swinging ahead of off speed all game. Felt like an adjustment was possible. Maybe he was just too good.

Only when we lose I think so "No hard questions please."

Oh for sure...I actually thought lefty hitters had a better chance of doing damage against Snell early tonight because he wasnt throwing his curve for a strike as readily as the change - so he was having to throw more fastballs to lefties since the change up really isnt in his arsenal to them.  Yelich got his doors blown off his 1st two at bats, though.

Once uncle Charlie started dotting the outside corner the left bats had no chance.

It's just so irritating.

It's not cute, it's inappropriate.

Look, it's the playoffs. 2-1 games at the later stages just happen. I'm not thrilled about it, but I don't think we need to make a federal case about it, either. This was always well within the realm of likely possibility, and it isn't Murph's fault, and I don't think it means a really radical rethink is necessary. The lineup was constructed well, Snell was nails for 8 innings, but I suspect when the Brewers see him again (and I really hope they see him again) the approach will be better and the result at least slightly different.

Let's go at it again tomorrow. Back to work.

Because Isaac Collins is a better option?

You don’t need to start either against LHP. They usually haven’t.

Brewers simply need a SP to give them 5 or 6 innings at some point. We have asked our bullpen to go 5+ innings in 5 straight postseason games and tonight the 2 runs the Dodgers scored were off 2 relievers whose stuff was not as good as it was in the Cubs series in Patrick and Uribe.

Yes? What are we even doing here.  Collins terrible September was a wRC+ 97.  He had a worse May and somehow still was able to play baseball afterwards at a high level.

Last thought. Turang should not ever be hitting cleanup in an nlcs. Ever.

Would prefer Vaughn in that spot. I know Murph was trying to go RLRL, but you have to get your hottest hitters more AB’s.  Sure, it may not have been any different if an ending, but I have more confidence right now with Vaughn in that position.

Meh, it's one game.

Hopefully we can get 6 full innings out of Freddy tomorrow, 7 would be a Godsend!

Go Brewers!

It looks way easier from the stands to hit that kind of stuff - Snell was electric and the best thing the Brewers have going is I dont think he will get his next start until game 5.

Snell has made pretty much every team he's faced over the last month or so look this way, and as others said he basically got this season off while recovering from shoulder issues - so if he is healthy he's also not fatigued at all.

We need to score more than 2 runs per game. That’s our average the last 3 games and our current problem.

I'm guessing 2 & 1/3rd

Tight leash - can't go down 2-0

I'm not sure there's going to be a game 5.

Dodgers hitters are fouling off some pretty damn good pitches.  Been doing it since like the 3rd inning.

It was one of those games where, even though LA wasn't doing much offensively their ABs were collectively much better than ours. Of course we were facing Snell & they weren't. In retrospect a handful of 8-9 pitch ABs might've gotten Snell out after seven, and that might've been the difference.

The odds of a ball getting put in play if necessary would have been much higher with Vaughn.

At some point they might have to sacrifice defense for more offense.   Maybe consider playing Yelich or Bauers in the field and one or the other DHs.   They need more offense
