Would imagine he's still viewed as the successor to Murph. Counsell came right out of the front office when he replaced Roenicke. At least he now has experience in the dugout.

Interesting that they aren't hiring a coach to replace him. I wonder if Erickson gets the bump to bench coach.

You read that elsewhere I take it?

That's... really weird.

Weeks was always one of my favorite players. I liked the guy. He wasn't the star he was supposed to be, but he'd take a ball off the face and stay in there. None of that handbags crap when there were fights on the field. I remember seeing him get upset once or twice and... it took a lot to get him there.

He doesn't strike me as a great Manager. Plenty of current or past players do... Weeks feels too tight.

Yeah McCalvy had a follow up tweet saying they won't hire a new coach. Also in his article about Weeks said that there will be some role changes for the current staff. Just a guess on my part that Erickson could be the guy getting the bump to bench coach.

Obviously just a guess but this has the vibes of being the Brewers idea not Rickie’s.

I don’t get the feeling he will be the next guy after Murphy…..time will tell.

Yes I think that if he was the appointed successor, he'd still be in the role he was. Could be that Murphy was viewed as an interim (essentially) solution with Weeks taking over after 1-2 years, but now that it's Murphy's job to keep perhaps Ricky doesn't want to stick around as a bench coach (Or "associate manager"...) for several more years. Or perhaps Pat wants a different voice in the dugout, now that his position seems more permanent. Or something else, obviously just guessing here. But while this doesn't rule out Weeks still being the next Brewers manager, I'd argue it makes it less likely.

Maybe they feel like Weeks has the dugout and clubhouse part of the job down and now want him to see things from the front office side like Counsell did before he became manager. We just don't know enough to say anything definitive either way

He was in a front office role for a coulpe of years before he became Associate Manager, so he already has experienced that. Maybe he could use more seasoning there, but seems odd to move him on from that role only to move him back. While we don't know anything definitive, I think this move signals that at least something has changed. Which side that changed their plans remains to be seen though.

Promotion? Demotion? Neither?

Rotation?  Companies often rotate VPs/Directors to get experience and develop them for a higher role later.

Perhaps Rickie has his eye on being a GM and this was a development stop.  Or maybe he just didn't want to coach?  Maybe he has a personal situation where he can't travel all the time?

Or maybe Rickie had enough of Murph's weirdness to last him a while.

I assume this is a joke but if Rickie isn't able to deal with different personalities then he shouldn't ever be a manager.

I should’ve written it in blue.

We don't know if Rickie will be a great manager or not. I don't think it's possible to know these things until a manager has worked for a few months or a season, not an inning here and there when the manager got tossed. And then sometimes they fail and come back with another team and win.

Like any other job, people find their way as they do the work.

It could also be another team contacted the Brewers to interview for a position and then blocked it by moving him to a higher position.  This is normal within MLB.

Or he just gave in... No way to follow a manager that pulls pancakes out of his pants!
