This would certainly explain why Hernandez (MiLB Player Page) was oddly placed on the Wilson Development List to begin 2026. Hernandez is the apparent potential victim in the situation, as things read below:

The tweet above is part of a thread, here is the remainder:

A translated thread will be posted shortly.

Translations from tweets above:

According to sources, MLB may have opened an investigation for alleged Bullying involving the Brewers due to a situation related to a high-profile prospect from that organization against the rival pitcher Melvin Hernández.

MLB has an anti-bullying policy in teams since the 2016 collective bargaining agreement, in which players are prohibited from participating in a pattern of verbal or physical conduct with the aim of degrading, dishonoring, or causing mental harm to another team member.

“Representatives of the Milwaukee Brewers would have traveled to Rivas (in Nicaragua) to interview Melvin Hernández about the case,” a source told 8Deportivo. Hernández was one of the best minor league pitchers for the Brewers in 2025. He led in wins in Class A with 10 games and an ERA of 2.00.

Hernández did not travel to Spring Training and decided to stay in his hometown of Rivas.

That completes what has been tweeted thus far.

Hernandez turns 20 years old on July 3rd.

Never a hard thrower (at all), Hernandez has incredible pitchability, as is evidenced by his 0.99 WHIP and only 33 free passes (22 walks, 11 HBP's) in 121.2 innings last year (97 K's).

NOTE: We are strongly going to suggest and enforce extreme caution in this thread, and any speculation against any other specific player will be deleted from sight. Don't go there. The whole situation is troubling, and the phrase "related to a high-profile prospect" shouldn't be discounted and unfortunately doesn't help matters in terms of unwanted speculation. Hernandez spent all of last year with the Carolina Mudcats.

As for the source, 8 Deportivo is Nicaragua's most-watched sports show. It airs seven days a week.

Their 'X' account has regularly posted updates on the Brewers' Nicaraguan players (all who have been pitchers in recent years). For several years now, the Brewers have signed players from Nicaragua to a greater extent (by far) than any other MLB organization.

“I can say that Hernández is healthy; the development list cannot be used for injuries, even day-to-day situations.  Unfortunately, that’s all I have to share at this point.” (My update from April 10 in the injury thread)

Hernández is still at home in Nicaragua as the articles elude to.  He is doing well and is eager to pitch again, but does not know when or where that will be.

Hopefully this can be handled well enough by the organization that it doesn't impact their reputation and ability to sign/draft young players. Hopefully it ends up being an isolated incident.

THanks ARobs, I think I pestered you about this, and would say this was NOT anything I envisioned.

Sad and sickening. I also hope this can be resolved in a way that can all parties involved can what they need (help, education, a new start, support, etc), and get back to doing what everyone here can get behind and that is to just play baseball.

This is just... awful all around. Hernandez is a special pitching prospect, IMO, and this... words are failing me right now.

Easy Harold. This isn't an obituary.... we don't even know what happened yet.

Do we think this would be more along the lines of hazing or just repeated verbal abuse. I would hope there would be enough adults to stop verbal abuse pretty fast.

Melvin Hernandez activated from the Development List with Wilson

Interesting that this came through today.  Unfortunately, Hernández is not with the Warbirds at this time.

The Hernández Mystery Tour continues. What an unfortunate series of events! My heart goes out to Him for whatever unfortunate situations he dealt with. Here's hoping we do get to see him toe the rubber some time in 2026!

If we see him this year, he will definitely require an extended ramp up at the Arizona complex.  It’s possible that today’s move is a precursor to an assignment to the ACL if he’s preparing to return to the states, but I have not heard that is expected at this point.  It’s also possible that he’s being moved to the restricted list for the time being.

Is there a Cliffs notes version to this conversation? Can you say what has happening with Melvin?

There is supposedly an MLB investigation involving alleged bullying in the Brewers organization last season in which Hernández was the victim, or one of the victims.  The right-hander decided (or was advised) not to return to the U.S. and report for spring training at least until the investigation was completed.  As of last week, Hernández was still in Nicaragua with no plans to return to Arizona.  That is essentially all we know at this point.

Does the release end an investigation? Or does anyone know if there was still an investigation by the MLB into the situation / still ongoing?

Pretty much anything and everything that's been stated online or is known is within this thread.

If I were to guess, this is where the story will end.  I don’t think we will hear the outcome of any supposed investigation.  All I will say is that I can’t remember a time that I was more disappointed in the organization, not the org itself but some individuals within.  Of course, the COVID season releases were heartbreaking, but one can understand those moves to some extent.  Having heard some names rumored to have been involved in this situation only makes it worse.  Hernández has legitimate talent and I hope that he can find another opportunity stateside so that we can continue to watch him develop.

Well, this One is about as heartbreaking and strange as it gets. We will likely never know what exactly went on here. My only hope is the individuals involved - the possible alleged aggressors - can atone for any wrongful actions and get the help they need to better themselves.

And, I guess, first and foremost, my thoughts are with the player. I hope Melvin has recovered mentally - has gotten the support he needs to feel safe and empowered - and can continue what could be a special professional baseball career.
