Are we good again? Did we “compete” now that the Crew won? I will never forget a game thread last year, Brewers with the best record in baseball get down in a game early and a poster says “we suck”. The game threads are pure entertainment value.

Who was the poster saying Chourio was rushed to the majors? Kid was the youngest player in the history of baseball with back to back 20/20 seasons. Sporting a 900 ops at 22. Some of our fan base has held highlight reel takes.

Eh, game thread posts are just in the moment thoughts.  They are going to be a little reactionary.  Its best not to take them too seriously, or bookmark every over the top post in your mind.

If it’s a hall of fame worthy hot take, it’s hard to forget. I definitely don’t take the game threads seriously. How can anyone?

Exactly. People come on a game threads board and expect chick salad recipes. 😆

Dried cranberries in a good chicken salad is an amplifier.

Or maybe reasonable reactions and not being emotional like a “chick”?

Don't think the sexist comment was necessary

Back to the baseball, I don't know if it was the early explosion or not, but Gasser really seemed to relax & attack the strike zone after his first 6 or 7 hitters. Going back out for the 6th after 90 pitches & retiring the side on 8 pitches or whatever it was made me smile.

I'd be curious to know what was going on w/Rom throwing & then Patrick coming back for the 9th. He's probably down a couple days either way (?) but not sure why you get Rom up & not use him.

I once saw an old clip of an old, disheveled & in not-so-good-of-shape Babe Ruth playing for the Boston Braves & hitting a HR, I think in spring training. I was reminded of that after seeing Rowdy at the plate in the 9th.

OMG, I can't believe this needs to be explained. My exact quote was "Our team as constructed now can't compete in October with these two teams, meaning the Dodgers and Braves. Of course an inferior team can win a game against a superior team on any given day, but if these two teams, as constructed now, played a seven game series or even a five gamer in October, who would you take to win? I know who I would put my money on.

looking at the BP for Cincy, Rom must be sticking around & is the long man for Woodruff if needed, or for Tuesday. If you need a long man both days, I guess you also use some combination of Anderson/Kuhnel/Yoho with one of the latter two not being here due to Woodruff being activated. Otherwise holding Rom back today makes no sense. Get through the next two and maybe Koenig gets added by Wednesday?

Does any of this justify using Patrick for three innings today? No.

Rom isn't really a long guy. He's only gone more than 6 outs one time this year and has never thrown more than 38 pitches.

I also just don't really know who is being optioned. Gasser doesn't make sense with the big 18 in 17 coming up starting on Friday because you're going to need length. If it's not Gasser then Rom or Yoho would be the obvious answers but if either of them are going down, why weren't they used today?

I think the long outings by Patrick are somewhat designed to keep him stretched out. I think they want to preserve the ability to start him or ask him for 4-5 innings in the middle of a game rather than just treat him like their other relievers.

“Chicks” are not as emotional as some folks in the neighborhood.

Luke Adams with two homers (Nashville's only two hits).   Starting to look intriguing.  But not sure they trust him enough at third to make the bat worthwhile, and we already have a solid RH 1st baseman who many believe isn't getting enough ABs.  Maybe for the September roster spot.

He's no longer playing 3B.  Haven't we discussed this already?

So, bases loaded, down by 3 runs, bottom of the 9th, right handed pitcher...

Who are you sending to the plate, Vaughn or Frelick?

@Brewcrew82

@Brewcrew82

Seriously, looking forward to your answer...

Okay, but you are arguing that one player is just as good of a hitter from his platoon dominant side, as another hitter is from his non-platoon dominant side.

That is not a super strong argument for Frelick as a player overall. It’s just saying that there isn’t a big difference when Vaughn comes to the plate with a bad R/R matchup than when Frelick comes up with the platoon advantage.

My argument is exclusive to RHP and has been this whole time….

Overall, Vaughn is clearly the superior hitter. But against RHP his bat speed and power are down significantly to the point where he’s not really that different from a guy like Sal Frelick (who is hot this month btw). Thus, in a situation such as today where there’s righty starter on the mound, Frelick’s range in the OF quite reasonably gets him on the field over Vaughn.
