Yelich couldn't look more disinterested in playing baseball.

Watching him is about just as much fun so I guess the feeling is mutual.

At least we didn't burn any high leverage relievers. If you're going to lose it's better to get it over with early.

Very true.

And Andrew Vaughn got a badly needed day off

We got this 😂.. out of everything I'm most disappointed in Yelich. What's new. I can't wait til his contract is up

It’s hard to believe it’s been 6+ years since he signed that.

I am honestly not sure that the modern day Milwaukee Brewers would have done that same contract at that time. I think their understanding of value and the way they protect their capital has evolved some just in the last 6 years.

I would hope so. Contracts like that can set small franchises back a decade

If Yelich doesn't get his bat going, the best lineup for this team is Bauers at DH and Vaughn playing 1B. Bauers defense at 1B has been really poor this year and that big inning for the Reds started with Bauers just dropping the ball after Hamilton made a very good play.

There are some old adages in baseball, like

You don't make the 1st out of an inning at third base.

If you walk the leadoff hitter, you're asking for trouble.

If Jose Trevino & TJ Friedl combine for 2 HRs & 5 RBI, it's definitely not your day.

I didn't think the approach was horrible today. There was some chasing of the Burns slider; he does that to people. A handful of hard hit balls that found leather. More than anything, Burns had a number of 3-0 & 3-1 counts and was left off the hook instead of the hitter being able to work the walk, pick up a hit, foul off a few pitches, whatever. I haven't seen much of his work this season, but I suspect he was a little vulnerable today. Just didn't happen. All things considered, we go into Phoenix with the BP in pretty decent shape.

He sort of seems like he may develop into one of those guys you love to hate but damn, I'd take Sal Stewart in a heartbeat. The guy really owns his ABs. Sort of like Pete Rose, he relinquishes nothing every time he steps to the plate.

Too bad it happened in a loss, but I don't think we'll see a better play by a Brewer 3B all year than what Ortiz turned in in the 8th inning.

Just watching him today, I thought he was picking the ball up much better. But yes, there has to be a leash. I have no idea how long it needs to be. I know they love to have the Vaughn card to play late; I'm sure they knew they needed a lot of good things to happen the last two innings & if that happened they had him available when they got around to the 8-9 spots again. Can they continue to afford to do that? That's up to Yelich, I guess.

Trevino has zero hr this season so we speed up his bat with a 3-2 slider? If I threw 104mph I am not helping that guy hit a wall scraper hr.

Now I never played 1B but something tells me this is not how your footwork should look on a ball bunted down towards 3B.

What do you think is wrong with it?  The throw was coming from the  third base side of the pitchers mound and he had to go down to take the low throw. it seems like he was in position to take.it; he just didn’t catch it.

Honestly I think Hamilton took a weird angle on that bunt hit.  He started way inside and then had to drift back outside taking his momentum away from 1st.  He still made the play but it looked super weird when I watched it.  There was nothing wrong with Bauers' positioning on the play though.

I can't imagine his back foot that's on the base should be towards the back side of 1B rather than the front edge putting him closer to the throw for one. He's also not stretching at all and playing the catch very deep.

It might be a great time for Yelich to have some soreness in his lower back again. Take the next few weeks and the AS break off. Let Vaughn and Bauers trade off the DH spot. Bring up Quero for 2 weeks so we can pinch hit Sanchez at will or Black if you want to keep the bench option a lefty.

Come back in a good mindset for the dog days Yeli. Rest up.

I think you might be over analyzing considering that he was right there to make the catch.

I wonder if a throw from that angle coming out of the bright sunshine and fans on the third base side might have made it hard to pick up.

His numbers show it also 5 for 35 his last 10 games he played.

I don’t think a slump means he’s “disinterested”. More likely he’s discouraged.

The entire infield was in the shade.
