I realize I sound aggressive saying I’d send Pena and 2 others for Miller, it’s just cause I always assume guys will be a bit more expensive to acquire than I’d originally expect, mainly guys with multiple years of control left. I also know Pena is still ranked high but assume he’s lost a bit of luster this year with his health issues and only 2 HRs in 40 games, maybe prospective trade partners wouldn’t think this though. And the fact I think he’d be blocked in the IF until 2029 (Turang possible trade post 2028) with 2B Turang, SS Pratt and 3B Made until then, so he is imo somewhat expendable. But yes the Brewers do have a ton of depth to trade from and some guys who are ranked around 10-15 in our system would be top 5 in others so maybe could get away without sending Pena for someone like Miller.

I think the Brewers will be more aggressive than usual, but I don't see it being Skubal or Miller. Neither move really fits with what their MO has always been. And I think they'll be aggressive but within their framework. If they're trading for a SD reliever, Morejon is probably a lot more likely. If they go for an actual quality starter, i.e someone who they count on as their #3 for the postseason and not just a arm-sparing regular season innings-eater, I think it'll be someone who is not a rental.

Really though, what will decide what they do is where they get the best value. So it wouldn't surprise me if they instead go heavy on rental relievers, as you'll always pay a premium for starters.

Yes, and Devries netted Miller with an extra year of control. Miller sure as heck isn't going to net Made now.

No, and to be clear I wouldn’t give up Made, nor do I think the Padres should have given up Devries.

Pena is a little more interesting though, despite his ranking I think he’s pretty significantly behind Made and it may be tough to find where he fits.

Also, I know people don’t like rentals, for obvious reasons but the positive tradeoff is that they’re cheaper. Everyone loves control but if you don’t even know where a guy fits in next year or if there will even be a baseball season next year, sometimes it’s the way to go to fill short term holes with your excess Tyler Blacks and Brock Wilkins who aren’t a part of your future anyway.

Historically the Brewers have had no problem going after rentals that they like.

Passan soft predicting Skubal to Brewers. Return Logan Henderson, Josh Adamczewski, Ricki Moneys. A little pricey for me for a rental but it is Skubal. Swap Henderson with one of Gasser/Letson/Hardin and swap Adamczewski with Fischer or Jett and I think I’d do it.

In the same article, Passan said another possible deal could be Mason Miller to the Brewers for return Josh Adamczewski, Braylon Payne, Bishop Letson, and Sal Frelick. Again seems pretty pricey on the surface. If they swapped Adamczewski with Fischer or Jett and I’d consider it more.
