It doesn't sound like you and @adambr2are really saying anything that much differently.

He's saying he'd trade him for a premier, elite... maybe historic closer(and I do think a reliever is a big need for this team) but not for a lower level player.

That's not unreasonable. I've seen people(not on here, the... brilliant minds on X who wanted the Brewers to trade for and then "just sign Skubal to a 2 year extension,") who would trade Made for Skubal.

And again, the expectations have gotten SO ridiculous, so out of hand with these young guys, part of it they're doing to themselves.

This wasn't directed at him personally. Just the people cooling off on him in general.

What makes you think WE passed on him? Not giving up Pena? The Jays gave up a VERY talented and hyper athletic young SS.
We'd have had to give up Pena to match that.

And his FB velo stabilized in July and he's been better as of late than Detmers.

So if you think this is why we passed on Soriano(on top of all the other reasons he's a better fit) I'd imagine we'd "pass" on Detmers as well.

OK maybe we didn't "pass" on him. I don't know for sure but we didn't trade for him and the graph shows why that is a plausible route to take.

Ehh, is what it is. If they don't make those deals, I still get to cheer on the team with the best record in the majors tonight.

But yes, I'd be very surprised if the Brewers don't take steps to try to improve before 5 p.m. tonight. I don't understand why some of you are already calling this trade deadline a failure when we still have 7+ hours to go.

Not calling it a failure. Just don't see them getting a surprise bat not mentioned on the market.

The Brewers have a habit of making deadline moves that are kind of out of left field. I just think that odd move will be for a bat this year. No idea who.

The thing about our lineup is that it’s not top heavy, but it’s not bottom heavy either. It’s a lineup that you could argue the leadoff man should bat #9 and the #9 man should bat leadoff on almost any particular day. Would anyone really bat an eye for instance if Pratt hit #2 in the next game?

Even the 3B platoon that is our supposed weak point of Hamilton and Ortiz has combined for 2.1 WAR this year. That’s a solid player. So if you do make a move - who are you taking ABs away from? Unless  it’s a huge needle moving bat, you are pretty much making moves at the margins. Are we really that confident that Kyle Stowers for example is going to be any better than our existing options?

I think we could have made a deal around Jett Williams. We wouldn’t have necessarily had to give up Pena.

I’d happily move Jett Williams but for all we know he isn’t really moving the needle much for GM’s around the league.

Dang. That’s a very beatable package.

I would've thought so too. Even Skubal didn't have a high price relative to what many projected.
